Superstar jockey Jamie Kah will have to navigate a tricky barrier aboard Persan in search of a second Group 2 Adelaide Cup at Morphettville on Monday.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Persan drew barrier 10 and is battling stablemate Grand Promenade for favouritism in the $302,250 two mile feature.

It will be the first time Jamie Kah has ridden Persan, who is arguably the best credentialed horse in the race having finished fifth in the 2020 Melbourne Cup behind Twilight Payment.

Likewise Grand Promenade - a $5 favourite with tab.com.au - boasts Melbourne Cup form from the spring, and will be ridden by John Allen who has an affinity with Adelaide staying features.

Symon Wilde's Aurora's Symphony was the big mover in Cup betting firming from $15 into $11 after drawing barrier one.

It will be the second Adelaide Cup tilt for the Victorian who again comes to Adelaide on the back of a Launceston Cup win.

Another to shorten was Lord Reims Stakes winner Highland Jakk who drew perfectly in barrier two.

Chalk Stream, trained by Chris Waller and owned by King Charles III, will jump from barrier 15 with Jye McNeil to ride.

Adelaide apprentice Alana Livesey will have her first Adelaide Cup ride aboard Busker's Ballad who drew ideally in barrier five.

Jason Holder will ride another local in Wheels for Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, chasing his second Cup win, 27 years after winning aboard French Resort.

Wheels drew barrier four and Holder said to win an Adelaide for his old boss would be truly special.

"I've always wanted to win a Group 1 for Leon, So to win an Adelaide Cup would be just as special, bucket list stuff.'' Holder said.

"We came close to that Group 1 win in the Derby when Dalasan was beaten behind a star (Russian Camelot). We still talk about how unlucky we were to bump into a superstar at the time.

"This horse will stay, can she stay the quickest is obviously the big question but you've got to be in it to win it,'' he said.
