Codi’s mainland adventure begins with NARS

Last season’s premiership winning rider Codi Jordan will represent Tasmania in round 2 of the National Apprentice Race Series (NARS) at Belmont Park in WA on Wednesday, but her return to the state will not be immediate.

The talented young apprentice, who only began race riding in September of 2020, will move to the Ballarat base of Tony & Calvin McEvoy, initially on a three-month basis.

"I've been open to riding trackwork in a few different spots, I went to Adelaide and rode for a week with Leon (MacDonald) and loved that.

"The next place I went too was the McEvoy's and really enjoyed that as well. They offered me a three-month loan and I just thought why not," Codi Jordan said from WA ahead of round 2 of the NARS.

With 125 career wins to her credit and having outridden her claim in Tasmania, Codi says the interstate move has been a long time coming and an important chapter in her progression as a jockey.

"This initial loan is all about seeing how it goes and what opportunities may arise.

"It's a matter of giving it a go and getting my name out there a bit more and keep improving my own riding."

Codi made a statement at her mainland debut at Kilmore back in the winter of 2021, landing a treble from as many rides at the meeting. While she has had a handful of rides at other Victorian venues such as Sandown, Sale and Cranbourne, Wednesday's round of the NARS will be her first time experiencing Western Australian racing.

"There's a lot of new names and different horses I'm not familiar with but it's always a thrill to represent Tasmania and particularly this time travelling to the other side of the country."

Codi's departure from Tasmania has been somewhat offset by the return to race riding on Wednesday night of Tayah Stalker who will help fill the void in the Wesley Vale stables of Glenn Stevenson.

After round 1 of the 2023 NARS, Tasmania sit in sixth position. Races 4 and 6 are the dedicated NARS legs at Belmont on Wednesday, before the series moves to Hobart this Sunday.
