Long weekend wrap: Rebel Racer's next steps, SA jocks dominate Broken Hill

Rebel Racer’s rapid form resurgence could see connections throwing in a late Sydney Cup nomination after his upset Adelaide Cup win at Morphettville on Monday.

The son of dual Derby winner Rebel Raider provided Amy and Ash Yargi with the biggest win of their training career when he led throughout to win the time honoured feature with Craig Newitt in the saddle.

It was a triumphant return to SA for Rebel Racer who was prepared for the 2018 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling by Mill Park Stud, from SA mare Just Sybil who was pure speed winning 11 races between 1050m and 1250m.

"I still can't quite believe it,'' Amy Yargi said.

"I'm so proud of Ash and our team,'' she said.

Cup Day was also a triumphant return home for former local Joe Bowditch who landed an early riding double winning the opening race with Aitch D'Amico before claiming the Listed Cinderella Stakes aboard the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Show Royale.

Teo Nugent and Robert Hickmott won the C S Hayes Memorial Cup with Beltoro, Jason Holder combined with his old boss Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas to win the Matrice Stakes with smart mare Another Award while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott's Stonecoat led throughout to win the Listed Morphettville Guineas.

AT Morphettville on Saturday Jason Holder took riding honours with a race to race double on the Parks getting Exalted Dame home before Rusty Halo scored in the last race of the day.

Phillip Stokes took training honours at Morphettville on Jewel Bay with Kayla Crowther, the first leg of a running double, before Gary Lo landed his first winner since returning to Australia aboard Apache Star.

Talented Victorian Bellenger continued his successful run over the border when he made it two wins form as many starts in SA in combination with Laura Lafferty when he proved too sharp for the well-tried Chicago Storm.

AT Clare on Sunday Shayne Cahill's good run continue with another training double Flittell scoring with Todd Pannell in the saddle before apprentice Caitlin Tootell score aboard stablemate Two Odd Sox.

It was a memorable day for the Tootell family when dad David scored aboard Catalina Blue for Brenton Jones.

Zoe Lloyd capped a big weekend with a double at Clare when she was successful aboard The Jordan Frew-trained Lord Of Darkness and Choncape for Brendan Davis.

It was her second double in as many days after two winners at Penong on Saturday where she shared riding honours with Sairyn Fawke, who won the Penong Cup aboard Epaulette Prince. It was the second country cup triumph in as many starts for Epaulette Prince, with the Garret Lynch galloper claiming the Lock Cup a fortnight ago.

SA jockeys also dominated the Broken Hill Cup meeting on Saturday.

Stacey Metcalfe had a riding treble, Caitlin Tootell her first riding double along with Rochelle Milnes and Murray Henderson who both had two winners.

Milnes and Henderson created a slice of history when they couldn't be separated in the Broken Hill Cup for the first time in the races 58-year history. Henderson boasts 37 years more experience in the saddle compared to the up and coming star of the saddle.
