Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for February 24.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Canterbury, Moonee Valley, Lismore, Kilmore, Rockhampton and Canberra.

CANTERBURY: RACE 5 @ 8:00 PM

All eyes on the resuming PUNGO (4) here. He was a dominant maiden winner at Warwick Farm two back which saw him heavily backed to win the G3 Carbine Club at Flemington before a spell. Rates highly and should go close. JAYANTHI (6) was too good for an in-form horse when last seen at Warwick Farm second up and looks well placed again here. Gets down to 54kg for this and with even luck from the inside gate she should be in the finish. THE EMPIRE (1) could only manage seventh when resuming two runs back then improved last start to run third here. Has pace so should use the inside gate and take running down. POLE POSITION (3) looks the other speed influence and is looking for three in a row. This is tougher but he's hard to knock. SELECTIONS: Pungo to win.

MOONEE VALLEY: RACE 3 @ 7:15 PM

SUMMERBEEL (1) improved off the back of his game first-up hit-out off the long break to knuckle down for a courageous victory. Unbeaten third-up and gets a positive hockey switch to Blake Shinn. Can continue to improve. LIBERATED GIRL (6) didn't give her rivals a sniff at the latest when leading to pillar to post over the track and trip. Jamie Kah sticks and is drawn favourably. No reason she can't win again. FABIOLA (10) finds this tougher but it is hard to ignore her dominant back-to-back wins. In the mix. HARD SQUEEZE (5) chased Liberated Girl gamely to the line at the latest when narrowly missing. Have to include. SELECTIONS: Going with Summerbeel.

LISMORE: RACE 1 @ 12:40 PM

BEEF WEEK PRINCESS (3) ran on strongly to just miss in the Country Champs qualifier at Coffs Harbour last time out and will find this much easier. She's nicely weighted and McGuren sticks with her. She looks very hard to hold out. EYES TO EYE (5) disappointed badly at Doomben last time out but is much better suited to this event. He'll offset the wide draw by rolling forward and can prove hard to run past if he's at his best. SILVER CANVAS (4) scored a narrow win last time out when holding over 1310m at this track. He's up in trip which is a slight query, but the 3kg claim helps and he's not to be discounted. DORSET COAST (1) wasn't far away when favourite in a tougher race last time out. Expecting him to be in the finish. SAGRADO (6) may have needed the run first-up and can improve on that effort.
SELECTIONS: Siding with Beef Week Princess.

KILMORE: RACE 8 @ 5:00 PM

GOLDEN VITRINE (3) ran below expectations when used up early from the wide gate before tiring to run fifth at Warrnambool over 1700m on February 1. Back in trip here and gets the right run from the gate. Will prove tough to beat. ALLURING REBEL (4) gave nothing else a chance at start four when a dominant maiden winner over 1400m at Pakenham on February 9. Up sharply in grade but looks to have plenty of upside. PAINT ME RED (2) has won this track and trip and due for a change of luck. Showed good early dash from a wide draw before tiring late when fourth over 1500m at Bendigo on February 12. Looks the value runner. REMIGIUS (6) broke his maiden status at start four with a fast finishing 0.5 len win over 1400m at Wodonga on February 6. Fiter now and looks solid each way value.
SELECTIONS: Golden Vitrine to win.

ROCKHAMPTON: RACE 5 @ 4:40 PM

CANNY IMPACT (1) has been threatening at the Sunshine Coast and is suited in country grade. Draws for a soft run and Stanley for the apprentice is a key jockey switch. Clearly the one to beat. READYENTIME (10) peaks and has been racing solidly without winning. Found the line well as favourite the latest but note Stanley gets off. IKIGAI STAR (5) is third-up and no surprise if he shows more on the 6-day return. He was nudged out at the Sunshine Coast before the spell and that would have him right in this. LEVALET (6) will also position forward and was back on track narrowly beaten at Townsville. A first-four hope. SELECTIONS: Keen on Canny Impact.

CANBERRA: RACE 1 @ 1:35 PM

BURGUNDY GIRL (6) resumed at Wagga and did a big job to place as an equal favourite. She draws for a soft run and has more to give. In the top local barn and a dangerous stablemate has been scratched for a later race. GALACTIC WARRIOR (3) wasn't beaten far here three weeks ago in a CL1 and had been off the scene for more than a year. He's had interrupted preparations but the ability is there and he may go on with it now. DREAM INHERIT (2) is in a canny Sydney barn and drops back to a sprint. Was beaten 1.7L at Newcastle three back at 1300m and that reads well. FIRE AND GEMSTONE (5) led and won the Maiden here two back and disappointed at the coast after. The shorter sprint will suit better and he's capable of using the rail with a decent jump. SELECTIONS: Backing Burgundy Girl to win.
