Australian thoroughbred Tab meeting is today held at Newcastle, Ballina, Pakenham, Kilmore, Ipswich and Geraldton.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 2 @ 1:50 PM
GITALONG (2) returns a gelding after enjoying a promising debut preparation. Has tackled quality opposition in his early career, beaten twice by Barber before finishing prep just over 2L away from Sunsource. Showed good signs in all of those starts and looks to have come back a more complete athlete, going off his Rosehill trial placing. Expected to take plenty of beating. SECRET REVOLUTION (1) returned in solid order off a long lay off, chasing gamely into the placings at Warwick Farm. Strips fitter and looks the main threat off ratings. Will just need a smart steer from the sticky draw. WELCOME GYPSY (5) returns for her second crack at it after being sent straight to the paddock following her disappointing debut effort at Canberra. Has shown promising signs at the trials and is drawn nicely. In the mix. DRESSED TO KILL (3) continues to improve and is next best.
SELECTIONS: Gitalong the one to beat.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Newcastle Computer Card.
BALLINA: RACE 7 @ 5:20 PM
RED HOT RUBIX (2) has been performing well in the City and should notice the drop in class today. He gets the blinkers on for the first time and looks set to break through for a deserved maiden win. YUKANUMA (1) failed as favourite fresh up at Ipswich in a very disappointing effort. He gets the blinkers on for the first time and on what he showed through his first prep he should be allowed another chance. Follow your money. ANOTHER DIME (3) improved his form over ground during his initial campaign and he would have matured over his recent spell. Today's distance may be short of his best but he will be hitting the line hard. Watch for him late. SPOT ON READY (12) finished off strongly when beaten a head last time at Ipswich. Can contest for a place.
SELECTIONS: Red Hot Rubix to win.
PAKENHAM: RACE 5 @ 7:45 PM
MORPHEUS BRAGI (2) scored maiden win here last November. Resumed against more experienced gallopers at The Valley and did plenty wrong before finishing fourth. Will be improved by the outing and is expected to go close. WRITTEN ROYALTY (3) scored first-up at Benalla and followed up with another solid display there last time out. Has had his races spaced this campaign but is expected to feature prominently. EXTRAVAGANT CHOICE (4) was a Cranbourne maiden winner in January and efforts since has been fair. Better placed back in this company and should make a bold bid. SIR FREDDIE (1) produced a solid effort at first effort following a long break. Strips fitter here and must be given respect.
SELECTIONS: Back Morpheus Bragi to win.
KILMORE: RACE 6 @ 4:00 PM
TOROPEAK (2) stood flat-footed at Werribee at a short price and more than made amends winning here by almost 4L this grade. Keeps the handy 3kg claim and can go on with it. THE HAY FLYER (1) led and won at Kyneton and then went back beaten 1L. Has more weight but is a chance to bounce. IMPENDING SHADOW (6) was just beaten here on a dry surface before recording another near-miss on a heavy track at Echuca at 64 level. Picked up well and the longer sprint will suit. CHAMPINSKY (5) drops back from city grade and is in the mix along with OUR AUGUST ROSE (4) who can show her best third-up.
SELECTIONS: Backing Toropeak.
GERALDTON: RACE 5 @ 4:30 PM
IHTS CLOSING INN (6) made the most of a gun ride from apprentice Zephen Johnston-Porter when getting up late to score here last time out. She is showing a lot of promise and obviously loves racing on this track. She is having her third run in a month but is thriving and can win again. SECRET LAIR (3) is knocking on the door with a brace of second placings here most recently, including finishing runner-up to the top selection last start. She looks to be the main danger again. HELL RAIDER (9) did not have much luck two starts back and then ran on late for third place here last time out. He is trying the mile for the first time and is worthy of consideration. MYSTIC LOVE (8) showed signs of a form return when finishing less than half a length from the winner here last start. She is likely to get back early but if the breaks come her way then she is capable of having the last say. Watch for her late.
SELECTIONS: Ihts Closing Inn to win.
