The first Saturday meeting of Winter is highlighted by the Winter Cup on another open day of racing.

The meetings don't get any easier in Sydney this week. Since we've come back to town it's seemed as if the ten-race cards are averaging about $6 the field, but nonetheless there are winners to be found.

Skipping swiftly over the first part of the card and focusing on the end for the best bets of the day, with the best of the day coming up in Race 9.

Robusto is no star but it's not a star's race and he looks very well set up to peak third up here. Two runs back from a spell at 1200m have been beautiful, running to 92 and 96 with Timeform, getting home in the meeting's fastest last 800m and the race fastest last 600m second up.

Not suited there staying at 1200m, he now gets to 1500m third up, and last preparation saw him rate 88, 96 and then peak third up, running to 104+ before running third in a Group 3 at Newcastle. Kerrin on isn't ideal but he draws perfectly in 4 and if he's able to replicate what he did last campaign I think he'll go close.

Onto the last for the value play and the topweight Cythera looks over the odds at a generous double figure quote early. As much as $14 is being bet about this filly early and whilst she hasn't won since her debut, her form stands out.

She beat Lady Laguna and Spacewalk on debut and has then been beaten by Best Of Bordeaux, Rich Fortune, Benedetta, Parisal and last time Majestic Shot in the Listed Bright Shadow Stakes (1100m) at Doomben.

She's a three-year-old filly taking on, and giving weight to, older horses but she's never raced out of listed or group class events and her ratings have been rock solid throughout her six start career.

A closer draw would've been ideal but the two leaders, Authentic Jewel and Winning Verse, are huge queries at 1200m and will be stopping late. If she can land in front of a few she can be picking up the pieces late and I'm surprised she isn't shorter.
