As the weather affected racing in Victoria, South Australia, and particularly the Gold Coast, where the Magic Millions raceday had to be postponed until Thursday, the track at Rosehill raced perfectly with winners able to come from anywhere.

Red Resistance gives Prebble ideal start

Victorian premiership winning jockey Brett Prebble has recently relocated to Sydney and started the day in style with a tough win aboard the G Waterhouse & A Bott debutant Red Resistance.

"I was at a crossroads a little bit in Victoria, where I was going to go and what I was going to do so I just thought long and hard with my manager and we came up with a plan… it's starting to pay dividends now," Prebble said.

Kalino back better than ever

Dylan Gibbons had a day to remember and the first of his three winners came up in Race 2 with Kalino, who came from near last over the 1200m to win by a length.

Extended to 1800m last time in, Chris Waller has kept Kalino fresh and at 1200m in two runs this time in and the four-year-old has shown a great turn of foot to win well both times in.

Prebble's double aboard Ringmaster

If one win didn't do it, Prebble's second win of the day certainly announced he will be a force to be reckoned with in the Sydney jockey ranks, as he gave the Michael Freedman trained Ringmaster a perfect ride to win Race 4.

The three-year-old was taking on the older horses and once Prebble steered him straight and balanced up, the Zoustar gelding showed a nice turn of foot to put the race away.

Joe Pride notches up double

Neither of Joseph Pride's winners on the day were particularly well fancied, and both had to dig deep but Hokkaido in Race 5 and Mariamia in Race 7 again showed why Pride is one of the best trainers in Sydney.

Hokkaido, a gelding by the Japanese stallion Satono Aladdin, was having just his second run for the stable since coming over from New Zealand and came from last with a big run to win narrowly.

"He's a raw talent, but a real prospect, I just thought it'd be too short for him today given what he did the other day and he was no better in the run because he was a mile back and under a fair bit of pressure… when he works it out we've got a real horse on our hands," Pride said.

Two on the bounce for Banju

Whilst not as visually impressive as his 3.8 length win last start, the Lyle Chandler trained Banju was a determined winner of Race 8, overhauling Major Artie in the shadows of the post.

Banju gave Chandler his first career win as a trainer in February 2021 and the horse has now won 6/22 starts and, in contrast to his all-the-way win last start, was able to come from midfield.

"I've always said he doesn't have to lead, he's just got to be able to get into a nice rhythm. He's got a lovely cruising speed that he can quicken off a little bit, it's nice to add another string to his bow," Chandler said.
