Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2023 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

WESTERN BULLDOGS v ST KILDA

Saturday 25 March @ Marvel Stadium

Prior to last week, this pairing would have been perceived in such a one sided way with only the margin being in question.

Well after Round 1, while that could still be the case, at least that uncompetitive vibe is gone.

The Bulldogs were so disappointing from about halfway through the second stanza. Admittedly they ran into the current Premiership favs but there was a sameness about them.

That was born of the narrative about their playing four big men – a structure which is foreign to essentially every other side.

Now while they don't tend to have them all on the park simultaneously, it is when the ball hits the ground that there wasn't those to crumb like you'd see elsewhere.

Remember they lost Dunkley and Hunter from their multitude of midfielders. But it still didn't stop eight Dogs from racking up 24+ possessions. That is so very much their game. You can rely on them to lead the stats but often it doesn't translate.

The one thing they probably won't be leading here is the tackle count as St Kilda will view the chase and pressure gauge as their ally.

What they did to Fremantle was to take away any hope of an unpressurised, controlled game. That was then on Freo to change it up and they couldn't manage anywhere near it.

You can only imagine Ross Lyon coming up with a similar style. Being so undermanned at the moment, all you can do is show effort. That brought that to Marvel Stadium and got the victory.

So this time they are away from home (but at home) so little fears there. But can they reproduce twice on the trot. The Bulldogs will be on-guard for it and should lift here.

In losing last week they scored a poor 65 but ironically it was just 2 points shy of the Saints winning score. That will change this time at this ground.

Suggesting the Bulldogs will change things up sharply and score more than 100. That should be good enough to beat St Kilda's current line-up even without the injuries and changes from the Kennel.

Match Selection: Western Bulldogs by 19 points

Suggested Bets: Western Bulldogs -10.5 @ $1.90
