2023 AFL Round 8 Preview – RICHMOND v WEST COAST

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2023 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

RICHMOND v WEST COAST

Saturday 6 May @ MCG

This game incorporates the winners of four Flags on the trot and only ending three ago.

And yet the thought of either winning the Premiership before 2030 seems highly fanciful given current style of play.

The Tigers are a shell of even last year's side which made the finals. What amazes is they still have a lot of their main cast bar for Tom Lynch.

It was a fairly meek effort to lose to a Gold Coast side not exactly travelling like a flying machine. Taranto and Hopper are starting to get some recompense for the large investment in them but their other compadres are not joining in.

Perhaps Martin and Cotchin do not have the support cast they used to have defensively but they aren't making the impact.

They would play better with Lynch as the target but not that much better. Mind you taking on the West Coast in Melbourne could seem like chicken feed at the present.

Almost witches hats, they saw Carlton run rings around them. Giving up 23 goals is not going to look well on any review but doing it at home is worse.

Again Tim Kelly was almost one out. He's their best player by a hundred yards in 2023. You'd like to bet on their B&F right now.

Around a little sporadic patch in their Premiership year of 2018, their record at the MCG is paltry. Not sure why as the ground is the same size as Optus Stadium.

They would not get a better opportunity to right some wrongs by performing well in this contest but how can you rely on it.

Then again, consider how Richmond is playing, and yet they are 10-1 on with the bookies. That tells you how bad the Coasters are.

What do you do? Richmond will be winning surely. But it might be one of the lowest Tiger crowds in a long while at home. A wet day will impact.

Match Selection: Richmond by 35 points

Suggested Bets: Total Points Under 167.5 @ $1.90
