Michael Voss isn't interested in the widespread criticism around Carlton's inefficient attack.

As the Blues seek to turn their fortunes around after a fifth loss in six outings, their coach is first demanding improvement on the other side of the ball.

"I don't want to be walking out of here and be lost on the message that defensively we're not good enough right now," Voss said following Sunday's 28-point defeat to Collingwood.

"I understand there's been some chatter around what we need to do offensively and how we can maximise better and be more efficient going forward.

"But the reality is this game's imperfect and these mistakes happen.

"How you correct those mistakes and how you flick into defence quickly so you can get the ball back quickly - we're just not recovering quick enough.

"That's what we've got to go to work on as a footy team and that's our expectations."

Carlton managed just seven goals from 50 forward entries against Collingwood but Voss wouldn't be drawn on his side's poor conversion.

Charlie Curnow booted three majors in the 13.7 (85) to 7.15 (57) defeat at the MCG.

The Magpies kicked nine of the first 11 goals, jumping out to a 44-point lead before Carlton threw a few punches back.

By then the fight was over, leaving the Blues in 11th position with a 4-1-5 record ahead of a crunch clash with Sydney on Friday night.

Voss said young ruckman Tom De Koning will be in consideration to return against the Swans, having not played a senior game since round five.

"Tom's been off for a period of time - I understand there's a conversation around that," Voss said.

"I'm told he did really well (in the VFL), from what I'm told ... but that's something that we'll assess in the coming days."
