2023 AFL Round 11 Preview – GEELONG v GWS

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2023 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

GEELONG v GWS

Saturday 27 May @ GMHBA Stadium

We probably won't look back on this at the end of the season if Geelong make Finals but if they don't this GWS game could be what makes life hard.

The Cats are further back than last year when they made their long unbeaten surge and thus are likely to miss Top 4. From there things get very tricky.

It came as no surprise that Geelong would get beaten by Fremantle away from home. They don't enjoy Perth much and the Dockers do.

But it was that in the end, it was a pretty fair defeat. 5 goals is 5 goals and despite a couple of little periods, Freo were good value.

One of the things we've learned about Geelong is that without Selwood in 2023, a lot relies upon Dangerfield to have stellar games and/or Cameron and Hawkins to kick plenty.

Well Dangerfield was out and Cameron was held goalless. You can make a good fist of winning from there and the home side did.

It is probably fortunate that they will meet a side who aren't in top form and have to travel in order to get back on the right tram.

GWS battled bravely to St Kilda but by not winning at home, they failed to give themselves momentum. Whitfield had one of his better ones for the year and it was the usual folks behind in Green, Coniglio and Kelly.

They just lack it when not getting big returns from Toby Greene or their new pairing of Hogan with the kid Cadman. It is too much to ask him to lead there.

Geelong just wins these games every year at home. They love to prey on the weakened. However to the Giants credit they have two recent wins there.

If they are on their game then you'd be happy to tip them but if not, then it might be closer than you think. GWS's injuries hurts them again though. Who takes Hawkins?

Match Selection: Geelong by 28 points

Suggested Bets: Tom Hawkins 3+ goals @ $1.92
