MELBOURNE v FREMANTLE

Saturday 27 May @ MCG

A really good tussle should ensue at the MCG on a good ole Saturday afternoon as a danger game awaits the Demons.

You only have to go back to the corresponding clash around this very time last year to see what could occur. Melbourne was not losing any games to that stage and some pundits had the unbeaten tag ready to hit send.

Yet by season's end they were out in straight sets in the Finals and you can take it all the way back to this very contest.

That was all looking normal to half time and then suddenly it went pear shaped as the Dockers kicked 12 second half goals to 1.

Given how they are playing right now, a performance of that standard is on the cards and the home team need to be on guard. Made worse of course by the loss of Clayton Oliver.

Melbourne was part of a very good game no doubt about that and Port only grabbed them on the line. But playing good sides or those in form need attention.

Petracca clearly wasn't at his best off that problem the week before and without the big target, they need other match winners.

They face a Fremantle side off a hatrick of wins, beating both Grand Finalists in consecutive weeks too. Their style has changed since season start, there was more movement and surely that helps the smaller forwards.

Well it also aided the bigger boys like Treacy, Amiss and even Darcy having a spell forward while Luke Jackson rucked. That clash of the BIG men will be a feature.

Everything about this match screams a problem for Melbourne but they would know that. The question is can they do much about it.

They could well scrape over the line but it won't be easy. The start seems appealing.

Match Selection: Melbourne by 5 points
