AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES, FIRST TEST, DAY FIVE:

Score: Australia win by 164 runs to go 1-0 up in the two-Test series. Australia 4-598 declared and 2-182; West Indies 283 and 333

SUMMARY: The West Indies resumed at 3-192 on the final day still needing 306 runs to reach the victory target of 498. Two wickets to Nathan Lyon in the first hour, including the prized scalp of Kraigg Brathwaite for 110, all but ended the visitors' hopes. Roston Chase (55) and Alzarri Joseph (43) put up a fight, but the target was never truly within reach. The result gives Australia a 1-0 lead in the series heading into the second and final Test in Adelaide, meaning they retain the Frank Worrell Trophy.

MAN OF THE MOMENT: Nathan Lyon. With Pat Cummins nursing a quad injury and reluctant to bowl unless completely necessary, Australia needed the rest of their attack to stand up. Lyon set the tone with two early wickets on the final day, and finished with 6-128.

KEY MOMENT: Brathwaite loomed as the man standing between Australia and victory, but Lyon sent the West Indies skipper packing with a beautiful delivery that spun slightly and crashed into the off stump. It reduced the West Indies to 5-212, and from there it was only a matter of time before Australia wrapped up the win.

STAT OF THE DAY: 446 wickets. That is Lyon's Test wicket tally following eight victims in Perth. This sent him past Ravi Ashwin into eighth on the all-time Test wicket-taking list.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "He all wants us to call him the Baby GOAT, but I'm not sure about that one yet." Lyon, who is nicknamed The GOAT, talks about Marnus Labuschagne's incredible feat of posting a double century and a century in Perth.
