Nathan Lyon has become the most prolific bowler in Border-Gavaskar trophy history on his way to spinning Australia towards a famous victory in India.
The star veteran took 8-64 on Thursday, bowling to perfection on sharply-turning pitch in Indore to bamboozle the masters of spin in their own conditions.
Australia chased down 76 with nine wickets to spare on Friday to secure just their second Test win from their last 17 attempts in India.
It was Lyon's prowess that turned the game in Australia's favour, as the 35-year-old added to his 3-35 in the first innings to make it his fourth 10-wicket haul in Tests.
Lyon's seventh wicket of the innings - the dismissal of fast bowler Umesh Yadav - was the Australian great's 112th against India to break the record held by Anil Kumble for most wickets in Tests between the two nations.
Lyon also became the most successful spinner to play against India, going past Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan - the all-time leading Test wicket-taker.
Plucked out of obscurity to debut for Australia in Sri Lanka in 2011, Lyon is now up to 479 Test wickets - eighth on the all-time list - with seemingly many more to come.
Lyon said his 23rd five-wicket haul would go down as one of the finest days of his 118-Test career.
"Certainly, it's up there as one of my career highlights, but I'm more proud about our group," he said.
"I think at the start of my career I probably felt more the weight of trying to win games in the last couple of innings.
"But it was actually my dad who sat me down and said there's three or four other bowlers who you're able to bowl with in partnerships and if you do your role then some days you're going to have success and some days your mates are.
"My dad just simplified it for me and made sure I wasn't over-complicating things and putting too much pressure on myself.
"They can be high pressure environments, and if we can stay nice and calm and collected, enjoy the battle."
That attitude allowed Lyon to bounce back after a disappointing 1-126 during Australia's thumping first Test defeat to India in Nagpur.
Todd Murphy was the shining light for Australia in that match with 7-124 on debut as Lyon took some punishment from India captain Rohit Sharma and the hosts' plucky lower-order.
India captain Rohit Sharma praised the tenacity and determination of Lyon, calling him the best overseas bowler in Indian conditions.
"I have not played against (Shane) Warne, Murali (Muttiah Muralitharan) but to me in the current crop he is the number one bowler from overseas to come and play here in India, because he has got too much consistency in his line and length," Sharma said.
"When someone is bowling with that accuracy, you got to try and do something different.
"That gives the captain a lot of confidence that I have got a guy that I don't have to worry about anything, and I know he will pitch it there and let the pitch do the rest."
