Boarders James, Guseli win X-Games medals

Snowboarding great Scotty James has won back-to-back halfpipe X-Games gold medals while teenager Valentino Guseli made it a double Australian celebration.

Australia Day came a day late at the X-Games in Aspen with snowboarders Scotty James and Valentino Guseli filling two spots on the halfpipe podium.

James claimed his sixth X-Games victory while teenage ace Guseli finished third - the first time two Australian athletes had been amongst the medals in the same discipline in Aspen.

Olympic bronze medallist Tess Coady also claimed her first X-Games hardware with silver in the ladies' snowboard slopestyle.

In snowy conditions in front of a huge crowd, James was again the dominant rider, with two outstanding runs securing back-to-back victories at the event.

Only legendary American boarder Shaun White has more X-Games halfpipe titles with eight.

Snowboard prodigy Guseli was in second position after a spectacular third run but got bumped down a spot late in the event by Swiss rider Jan Scherrer.

"It was a tough night, pretty interesting conditions and a little bit hard for us all to push it tonight, so I had to adjust the game plan and the show goes on," said Victorian James.

Coady was unlucky not to take the win, with the judges awarding first place to Kiwi Olympic champion Zoi Sadowski-Synnott on the last run of the day.

Japan's Kokomo Murase rounded out the podium.

Meanwhile, in World Cup mogul skiing, Olympic gold medallist Jakara Anthony has won her fifth medal of the season, collecting silver in Val St Come in Canada.

After advancing through to finals in first place, Anthony scored 81.88 points in the super final to be edged out of first place by 0.37 points by Japan's Anri Kawamura.

American Jaelin Kauf placed third with a score of 78.34.

After four events, Anthony is ranked first on the moguls standings with 380 points, with French skier Parrine Laffont in second with 270 and Kawamura in third on 248.

"Definitely a solid performance, obviously wanted that top spot, but so does every girl out there, so you have to be laying it down every run," said the Beijing Olympic champion.

Also in action for Australia in the men's event was Matt Graham who finished sixth in the super final, Cooper Woods 13th, Jackson Harvey 17th and George Murphy 38th.

The mogul athletes will compete again at Val St Come in a dual event.
