Dom Young has declared potential NRL club suitors have not yet seen the best of him, with the Newcastle flyer hopeful of deciding his playing future before the start of the season.

Young remains one of the most in-demand players in the NRL, off contract at the end of this year after a breakthrough 2022 with the Knights and an impressive World Cup for England.

The 21-year-old's decision is likely to come down to a choice between the Sydney Roosters and Knights, after fielding an approach from the Roosters to play on the right wing.

Young will lean heavily on his family in making any call, with his mother set to visit this week for the first time since his move to Australia in 2021.

The winger crossed for 14 tries in 20 games to be Newcastle's leading try-scorer last year, busting through almost four tackles a game.

But Young is adamant that is only a small fraction of what he is capable of.

"It's definitely not the best you've seen from me, there's a lot of levels to go from," he said.

"It was only my first proper big year last year so there's definitely a lot of parts of my game I can improve on and I've tried to improve on in the pre-season."

Young said the World Cup had also made him a far better player, as he scored nine tries in five games for England.

"I took a lot from that, being around a lot of experienced boys in there seeing how they get through their days and how professional they are," Young said.

"There's a few details there as well that I can obviously pick up on, but it was more the training mentality.

"Being a new player in the NRL, it's something I want to master and I picked up a few tips there."

Young remained tight-lipped on his preferred destination for next year, and did not want to divulge the pitch the Roosters or other clubs may have used given he is still contracted to Newcastle.

He hopes to have his future determined before the Knights' first game against the Warriors on March 3, but conceded that may not be possible.

"That was always the plan so I could start fresh at the start of the season, but if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen," Young said.

"But (I want it finalised) as soon as possible hopefully, so I can crack on with the year.

"A place where I'm going to be happy (is the priority), where I can enjoy my footy, like I have been doing here.

"It's not too stressed at the minute. I'm just leaving it up to my management and hopefully I can get it sorted soon."
