Gold Coast coach Justin Holbrook has no issue with veteran five-eighth Kieran Foran clashing with a trainer after he was substituted against Melbourne.

In fact, Holbrook said he would have done the same thing, despite the bold moving paying off in a rollercoaster 38-34 win on Saturday.

The Titans were trailing 24-12 when Holbrook opted to take Foran from the field once halfback Tanah Boyd was free to return from a head injury assessment test.

Holbrook explained he was keen to keep utility Jayden Campbell on the park in sweltering conditions and ensure his prized recruit was fresh for the final exchanges.

Foran wasn't happy when hooked, involved in a heated exchange with the trainer as he exited.

But Holbrook's call paid off, the Titans scoring three quick tries either side of halftime before Foran returned for the final 23 minutes to help end an eight-game losing streak to Craig Bellamy's side.

"Na, I'd do the same; if I'm a half I'm doing the same on the field," Holbrook said of Foran's annoyance.

"Foz is such a competitor; he wants to play 80 minutes and so he should.

"It was just in those conditions, honestly it was 30 something degrees and probably nearly 40 in the middle of our stadium.

"With Jayden Campbell, I thought he'd have a big impact and that's the way I rolled today."

Campbell finished the game at left centre, while captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui passed a concussion test and played 65 minutes in what was his brother Iszak's debut.

"To come back out and see him out there was awesome," the captain said of his first NRL minutes with his brother late in the first half.

"Today was tough ... to beat the Storm at home is massive."
