PLAYER OF THE ROUND: Mitchell Moses has had his fair share of critics but the Parramatta halfback helped kickstart the Eels' 2023 season by clinching a 17-16 win over Penrith. Fresh off inking a contract extension, Moses sunk the match-winning field goal in golden point and enjoyed a record 1,006 kicking metres in the intense battle with the Panthers.

QUOTE OF THE ROUND: "This is our f***ing house" - Kotoni Staggs after his runaway try helped seal the Broncos' maiden win over the Dolphins in the Battle of Brisbane. It was a nip and tuck derby played with an intense and relentless ferocity.

TALKING POINT: Can Nicho Hynes be as good this year as he was in 2022? Hynes set up three tries and played a role in two others in his first game back from a calf injury for Cronulla in big their win over St George Illawarra.

STAT THAT MATTERS: After their 16-14 win over Canterbury on Sunday, the Warriors have won three of their first four games for the first time since 2018 - the last season the club made the finals. The Warriors managed to keep the Dogs scoreless in the final quarter of the game, ensuring Canterbury remain the only team to have not scored in the last 20 minutes of a game so far this season.

MAGIC MOMENT: Lachlan Ilias' golden-point field goal to help South Sydney to a 13-12 win over Manly. It came on the night the Rabbitohs honoured club legend and the finest ever to wear the red-and-green No.13 jersey John Sattler. Footage of Sattler's 1970 grand final heroics and him singing the team song left Accor Stadium in respectful silence minutes later.

CASUALTY WARD: Eels - J'maine Hopgood (concussion); Panthers - Soni Luke (concussion); Tigers - John Bateman (ribs); Dolphins - Sean O'Sullivan (pectoral), Tesi Niu (knee); Titans - Kieran Foran (calf), AJ Brimson (hamstring); Cowboys - Murray Taulagi (knee), James Tamou (foot), Gehamat Shibasaki (hamstring); Warriors - Tohu Harris (knee); Knights - Kurt Mann (concussion); Sharks - Oregon Kaufusi (concussion).

JUDICIARY WATCH: Cowboys - Jeremiah Nanai (dangerous throw), Eels - Junior Paulo (high tackle) - high tackle. Raiders - Jack Wighton (dangerous contact); Dragons - Tyrell Sloan (trip).

UNDER PRESSURE: Anthony Griffin. Days after players discovered their coach had been told the club were canvassing options for next year, they were handed their biggest defeat by arch-rivals Cronulla in 16 years with a 40-8 trouncing at Kogarah.
