Cummings excited by Socceroos wonderkid Robertson

Alex Robertson has had plenty written about him before winning his first Socceroos cap and teammate Jason Cummings believes the teen is destined for the top.

If the hype around Manchester City prospect Alex Robertson is justified, the Socceroos biggest win of this month's international window might not even be on the pitch.

Australia boss Graham Arnold recently scored a victory in a four-way tug-of-war for the 19-year-old's international allegiance and has already highlighted how important he believes Robertson can be.

Born in Scotland but raised in Sydney, the midfielder has been likened to City star Kevin de Bruyne by Arnold and could potentially win his first cap in Friday's friendly against Ecuador at CommBank Stadium.

It's the latest eligibility coup of Arnold's tenure after securing the services of foreign-born players such as Harry Souttar, Martin Boyle and Jason Cummings, who has been given a unique insight into Robertson's potential.

"Alex is a good lad, he was at Ross County on loan - my uncle is a director there - and we were speaking about that," Cummings said.

"He's obviously a top player with a bright future."

With Robertson locked in to Australia's plans, Arnold has publicly stated his desire to get the Italy-eligible duo of Alessandro Circati and Cristian Volpato over the line.

"There's a lot of great Australian players and it's a hard job, but he (Arnold) will be loving it," Cummings said.

"There'll be a new crop coming in with a lot of talent.

"That's what we're focused on now, the future - these friendlies, the Asian Cup (in 2024) and then the World Cup in four years time.

"It's up to those guys and their families to decide (where their loyalties lie).

"I love it here and it's a great, family environment.

"For me it was a no brainer because Scotland doesn't qualify for the World Cup."
