Socceroos winger Marco Tilio has declared that the time is now for him to leave A-League Men club Melbourne City and join his peers in securing a move to Europe.

Tilio's domestic performances at City over the last three seasons have led to many experts predicting it would be a case of when not if he would take the leap.

The 21-year-old has five goals and as many assists in 21 games for City this season.

Former City boss Patrick Kisnorbo took a cautious approach with the five-cap Socceroo, but Tilio believes he is now at a level where he can follow ex-club and current Socceroos teammates Connor Metcalfe and Nathaniel Atkinson in moving overseas.

"I've tried to build into being a consistent player that can perform week in week out for the club and be reliable," Tilio said.

"If I can do that, I think I can hopefully take the next step in my career and go overseas to Europe.

"I think I'm ready for that, I've faced a lot of challenges over the past three seasons but I think I'm ready."

Tilio says he has been in contact with Kisnorbo, whose Troyes side are in a relegation fight in France's Ligue 1, but only on a friendly basis.

The winger, who is in line to add to his caps in friendlies against Ecuador in Sydney on Friday and in Melbourne next Tuesday said his destination was out of his control.

"I will wait and see what happens but Belgium, the Netherlands, maybe Italy," he said, when asked where would best serve his development.

"It depends what happens but I can't wait to get myself over there and throw myself into that environment."
