Dutch legend Diede de Groot has claimed a ninth consecutive grand slam title, beating Japan's Yui Kamiji in the Australian Open women's wheelchair singles final.

De Groot started slowly on Saturday but recovered to produce a 0-6 6-2 6-2 victory that secured her fifth major triumph in Melbourne.

It was her 17th grand slam singles title overall.

It wasn't a good day for Japanese finalists, with third seed Tokito Oda beaten 6-3 6-1 by British top seed Alfie Hewett in the men's wheelchair singles decider.

In the quad singles final, second seed Sam Schroder beat top-seeded Niels Vink 6-2 7-5.

It was the fourth consecutive grand slam meeting between the Dutch pair since Australian legend Dylan Alcott's retirement last year.
