Mudgee Racecourse is located in the heart of major winegrowing region 300km west of Sydney and is home to the historic Mudgee Race Club. Racing in Mudgee has existed since 1842. Mudgee Race Club conducts eight race meetings each season with the highlights being the Mudgee Cup meeting in December and Gooree Cup day in May. Mudgee racecourse, located north of the town centre, is surrounded by the local wine industry with more than 50 wineries in the region.

Mudgee racecourse has a symmetrical circumference of 1800 metres with a back straight run of 300 metres from the 1400m starting chute to the first turn at the 900m. The Mudgee home straight is one of the longest in country in NSW, being extended to more than 450 metres after a course rebuild and rising to the finish line over the last 50 metres. There are starts in the back straight for races over 1000m, 1100m, 1200m and 1400m. Mudgee racecourse facilities include a large auditorium overlooking the track and a vast lawn viewing area.
