Northam racecourse is located 60km east of Perth in the Avon River Valley and is a popular winter racing venue in Western Australia. Northam racecourse is the home of the Northam Race Club, established in 1863, and is situated on the the Mortlock River east of the Northam township. The Northam racing season runs from May to October with Northam Race Club staging up to 25 race meetings.
The major events are the Northem Gold Cup and Ladies Day Cup in October and the Northam Stakes in April. Northam racecourse is a spacious rectangular track, 25 metres wide with a circumference of 2017 metres.

Northam racecourse copes well with winter racing, being a kikuyu grass surface on a loam base that provides excellent sub soil drainage. The home straight is a long 425 metres with starting chutes for races over 1000m and 1600m. The left handed turns at the 1000m and 600m are well cambered with downhill run from the 1000m to the 400m. Northam racecourse is also an important training centre. The training facilities include the course proper; sand training track; round yard; education barriers; jumpout barriers and two bridle trails.
