Tamworth racecourse is the home of the Tamworth Jockey Club and is universally recognised as the leading racing and training venue in the New England region of NSW. Tamworth Jockey Club hosts 19 meetings annually including the Tamworth Gold Cup in April and caters for the daily training of more than 150 horses from local stables.

Tamworth racecourse has five tracks - a trotting track, dirt track, cinders track, B grass and the course proper.The turning course proper has a circumference of 1830m and home straight of 360 metres. The track is 21 metres wide and is sowed with kikuyu grass. A major redevelopment of the Tamworth racecourse saw the long turn from the 800m banked to 3%, adding safety and providing a positive camber to assist horses racing wide.
