Russian Revolution retired to stud one of the highest-profile members of his intake and the Newgate Farm stallion justified that with a stunning debut season.

The son of Snitzel was leading first-season sire on prizemoney, more than $260,000 clear of his nearest rival, and also produced more individual winners and the winners of more races than any other freshman stallion.

The dual Group 1 winner backed that up with victories in the same three categories in this year's Leading Second-Season Sire awards.

Russian Revolution progeny won a tick over $7.5 million, almost $2.2m more than runner-up Hellbent, who was also runner-up to Russian Revolution in both individual winners (68 to 54) and total wins (109 to 82).

The highlight of the season for the Oakleigh Plate and The Galaxy winner was his maiden Group 1 success as a sire, which came via Communist in the Randwick Guineas (1600m).

That earned the Michael Freedman-trained colt a Timeform rating of 115, but that was not Communist's highest-rating performance of the season, having run to 118 when sixth in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) won by Anamoe.

His second highest-rating performer was Insurrection, thanks to his win at Randwick on Saturday, which earned a rating of 113, while classy two-year-old Red Resistance came in at number three thanks to his 112 win in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes.

Russian Revolution also had a Group 2 winner in Revolutionary Miss, who claimed the Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington, while Libertad was assessed at 110 for his win in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).
