Potter pursuaded to give little mare shot at Cup (Sapphire Coast Thursday)

Good things come in small packages is certainly a saying that typifies Almost Persuaded who will attempt to add to her consistent record at the Sapphire Coast on Thursday.

"She is just in 14 hands high – a tiny little thing - and tries her heart out. Her record shows how consistent she is," trainer Rob Potter  said.

"The day she arrived I thought what is this she was that small. She has been terrific and you would love to have a stable full of horses like her who try so hard and have her record."

Almost Persuaded will line-up in the Bermagui Cup (1400m) after being scratched from the Benchmark 58.

Potter said the additional weight to 59.5 kilograms compared to her last start victory with three kilograms less is his main concern.

"She is so little that you do worry about the weight," he said.

"If you look at her record she doesn't know how to run a bad race with three wins, four seconds, three thirds and a fourth from 14 starts."

Almost Persuaded, a daughter of Casino Prince who was bred by her owner Les Hawking, is coming off the best victory of her career when she was successful by three and a half lengths at Goulburn.

She has finished second in her previous two starts at the track and will stay at the same distance of 1400 metres that she won over on October 11.

Mookareena, the winner of $200,000, has the class on her side and will be having her first start since July and has twice previously been successful first-up.

The top weight Shaka Rock is yet to miss a top three finish in two starts at the course and was only beaten two lengths when fourth at his latest start at Canberra.

Potter will also start Madison Point against Almost Persuaded who will be having his third start back from a spell.

"Madison Point puts in every time, but Almost Persuaded would be the better of my two chances the way they have been going and how the track will be," he said

Almost Persuaded may line-up at the Gundagai Snake Gully Cup carnival next week providing the track is recovered in time from recent flooding.

Apprentice jockey Molly Bourke will ride Almost Persuaded for the first time as she chases the 40th win of her career.

Potter will also start early favourite I'm Not Leaving in the Maiden (1200m) after he was set to race at Canberra on Tuesday.

The final three races at Canberra were called off due to the poor weather and Potter is hoping the stable can salvage something from the wet week.

"The three horses at the Sapphire Coast were in the last three races at Canberra when they got called off so I put them in at the Sapphire Coast just in case," he said.

Meanwhile, jockey Billy Owen cracked through for the 300th win of his career at Canberra on Tuesday and has a few chances to add to his tally especially with the in-form Snappy Jim in the Class 2 (1600m).

Snappy Jim has won his only two starts for trainer Nick Oliver since he arrived from Victoria.

The galloper hasn't raced for four weeks due to recent wash outs and his task has been made slightly easier with the scratching of last start winner Bon Frankie.

The shortest priced favourite over the seven races is in the opening race where debutant Mogo Music finally lines up.

The gelding has been impressive at the trials for trainer Scott Collings and is the only ride on the program for jockey Nick Heywood who was in charge in his latest trial victory at Goulburn.

The Sapphire Coast meeting was an additional one to the calendar after last week's scheduled fixture was cancelled due to wet weather.
