The first of the afternoon is scheduled for 13:09.

R1 Ladbrokes Odds Surge Maiden, 1009m

We kick off Easter Monday with a maiden over 1009m.  Adam Trinder has a newcomer to the state in Seydoux (8).  The mare last raced at Bendigo in mid-February and despite not having a race on the synthetic has no doubt seen the surface being trained locally. Her form on the mainland is good enough for this. Good trainer/jockey combination and with Brendon McCoull jumping from barrier 1 she has a lot in her favour.

The short sprint distance really suits Elmajay (9) who is a speedy little mare still searching for her first win. She has raced twice on the carpet for a second placing and is always around the money every time she goes around.  Hard to place a straight-out win bet on her but she's always worthy of a place ticket.

Geegees Sunshine (3) trained on the track, placed only try this trip and gets a 3kg weight relief for stable apprentice Chloe Wells. One for the multiples.

Staking Strategy: Very tricky maiden to start proceedings here, and the first time we have raced on the tapeta for quite some time. Horses like Elmajay and Rohzhae have plenty of placings next to their names but are yet to get the W on the board. Going with the new kid on the block, if she handles the surface her form on the mainland is good enough to win this. 1 unit to win on Seydoux (8)

R2 Goodstone Group Maiden, 1350m

Reconstructive (5) has been the victim of some bad barriers in his short career and today is not much better. I thought he went very well last time when being caught wide for most of the trip, dropping back through the field, then somehow found a second wind and came again.  With a more economical run today he could be in the finish.

Squazeemoto (6) might not have handled the Hobart surface last start so if you put a line through that performance, he is one of the main chances. Trained on the track by Rowan Hamer, the Squamosa gelding was improving before heading down south.  A stronger rider in Ismail Toker this afternoon, he is an each-way chance again.

Geegeeslockdown (2) is trained on course by Team Wells and Chloe Wells takes the ride. Drawn well, 3kg claim, not the worst.

Staking Strategy: I thought Reconstructive went very well last time when being caught wide for most of the trip, dropping back through the field, then somehow found a second wind and came again. 1 unit to win on Reconstructive (5)

R3 Kevin Sharkie Class 1 Hcp, 1350m

Hard race this as many of the runners are dual acceptors from Friday in Launceston.

Since joining the Alana Fulton yard, Noble Exception (5) has been going very well and he seems to be improving each run.  From barrier 3 he should get the gun run to push forward and either lead or sit just off. If he handles the carpet will be hard to beat.

Since joining the Wells camp, Katzenjammer (1) has turned his form around. He resumed last prep on this track with a promising second and then proved it wasn't a fluke and got the win the following start. Comes into this fresh and gets a strong rider in Kelvin Sanderson in the saddle, I expect him to run well again.

I think Coronation Veronic (6) is going really well. I liked the way she hit the line last start when being beaten by the barest of margins. My concern here is she has had two starts on the track for nothing. Very confident about her if this was on the grass.

Dawn Eagle (8) has had plenty of chances but does have form on this track. Was a promising run, when third last start in Hobart and she maps well from the inside draw.  Could provide an upset.

Staking Strategy: Tricky race to assess this with numerous dual acceptors. I think if Noble Exception runs again and handles the carpet, he's the win to beat. 2 units to win on Noble Exception (5)

R4 Tasmanian Horse Transport Mdn/cl1, 1880m

Bellanive (4) is super close to a win and today could be that day. Did fail her only try on this track however that was in her first career start and she has improved ever since. Does stay however drops down from the 2100m which may suit her better but I think she will still run very well.

Clara Karen (5) really caught the eye flying down the outside in a seven furlong race last start in Launceston.  Jumps straight up to the 1880m after that race which isn't always ideal. The way she hit the line and the extra distance does appear to suit however would have preferred her over the mile first.

I think John Blacker has hit the nail on the head trying Puma (3) over the staying trips. Yet to win in 17 starts but has been racing very well over the longer journeys. Has been placed three times on the synthetic so is a chance again today.

Recording just the one win, Isafjordur (2) won on debut at this track but since then has lost her way. Barry Campbell added the blinkers to the mare last start and she did improve. Blinkers stay on today and back to her home track is worth another chance.

Staking Strategy: I have been following Bellanive for a while now and think today might be the day she finally breaks through. 1 unit to win on Bellanive (4)

R5 Ulverstone Waterfront Apartments Bm72 Hcp, 1880m

My best of the day comes up here in Imagine Howe (2). He's a horse I have a lot of time for and he ticks plenty of boxes again today.  Trained on the track and won one from two here. Has to step up to the 1880m for the first time and my only concern is I don't think he got the 2100m when attempting it on Launceston Cup Day, however, this is still 300m short of that and the way he races at the mile I don't think it will be an issue.

Back to his home track again, Namabaale (1) should run well. Last start was disappointing and I note a senior rider goes back on today. Wasn't beaten far on his only try this trip and has won on the carpet before. Does seem to put in a good run and then does not really follow through the next start but maps well to get a good run-on speed and I imagine him kicking for home on the turn.

Geegees Rock Opera (6) comes into this third up and should be fitter now. Gets in very well at the weights after Chloe's 3kg claim and he loves racing on his home track.  A winner on this track and trip, he can't be left out of the multiples.

Zeva Royale (5) was no match for Miss Charlie Brown in Hobart over the 2100m and she steps up in grade today.  Trained on the track and been successful in the past here too. Siggy Carr takes over from Anthony Darmanin, who has ridden the mare in most of her career, place chance.

Staking Strategy: Imagine Howe looks the winner again for mine, my only concern is the 1880m but I think his class will overcome that. 4 units to win on Imagine Howe (2)

R6 Carlton Draught Class 3 Hcp, 1150m

Adam Trinder looks like he has been waiting for the Devonport season to start up again and has two big chances in this race. Multisanti (1) won three in a row before Adam sent him for a spell. Resumes his preparation here after two recent trials. Brendon McCoull takes the steer and from barrier 6 will push forward and find a position on speed.

Power Magnum (8) was excellent last start finishing third behind two promising gallopers in Verbano and Thelma. Only beaten just over a length in that assignment and is back on the carpet today where he boasts two wins from the three starts.

Gallant Warriors (3) returned to the winner's circle when second up behind Under His Eye in a benchmark 62 race last start. Trained on the track and has won one from three here, gets his chance but I do fancy his stablemate, Multisanti more.

Coming off a win and a placing, Gee Gee Rhythm's (7) form this time in has been very good but her best performances seem to come when racing over further.  Maps well to get a nice run-on speed.

Staking Strategy: A race I'm keen to get involved with here. I really like Multisanti, fresh from two trials I'm hoping he can continue to build the picket fence. 2 units to win on Multisanti (1)

R7 The Stables At Spreyton Bm62 Hcp, 1009m

I've been waiting for Quicken Up  (8) to resume and she was very good first up at Hobart behind Move On Over.  I said that day I would have preferred him on the tapeta and today we get to see that. A winner second up and has won two from three this track. Gets in well at the weights with EBBs claim, drawn a good gate which will allow her to settle on the speed and hopefully be too strong for them at the finish.

Consistent galloper Gee Gees So True (2) comes into this fresh from a six-month spell. Has won first-up in the past and loves the 1000m sprint.  Gets some weight relief with Chelsea's 3kg claim and will settle on the speed. Big chance.

Gee Gees Buzz (7) loves the carpet, in fact, his two wins and four placings have all come on this circuit. Stable apprentice Chloe Wells knows the gelding well and takes the ride again today. Each-way hope.

Etosha (4) finished midfield last start in Hobart behind Move On Over, beaten just under three lengths however the run was better than it appears on paper.  Sat three deep for half the race and was right in contention until the last 100m when ran out of puff. This race is no harder and with a more economical run, I could see him in the finish.

Jeremiah (1) is a horse that seems to have lost his way. He's too talented to leave out of my selections but is proving costly.  Has the ability on his day but hasn't won in quite some time. Kelvin Sanderson takes over today and a jockey change could spark the old boy up.  The best horse in the race however I just question his will to win these days

Staking Strategy: Think Quicken Up has come back very well and I'm excited to see her back at Devonport. Gets in well at the weights and maps to get a position up on speed. 2 units to win on Quicken Up (8)
