Westbury Classic (G3)

Sex: FM Type: OPEN

This G3 fillies and mares field was likely the strongest field of its type at this level in any class or type (age or sex) even though it had just a 70K stake. It is the timing of the event with a G1 for this sex only not far away that makes the big names come to play even though the set weights and penalties does not help or suit but this sort of race is now rampant at places like Ellerslie and Trentham. Diademe was winning her sixth race today and coped with the topweight of 57kg so when she meets most of these again under WFA will be looking good. She has tactical speed so can lead or sir poised and with a natural leader in the field the sit fourth the outer with cover won the race in the end. The 1:22.18 showed the pace was solid and also she did have the right formline coming into this with a last start fourth at G1 under WFA versus all comers. Opie Bosson rode and his pairing with Murray Baker/Andrew Forsman runners at blacktype level in particular is lethal. Pussy O’Reilly boomed home out wide from the back and almost got up but she is this type of mare it seems. Earlier this season she was second at G1 under WFA versus all comers after sitting wide in the midfield throughout. Atacama ran on well after sitting midfield the fence and is uber-competitive against her own sex. Abidewithme yet again was a huge late run for fourth from the rear and bettors have come to expect it now as she would win an award this season for being a victim of constant bad luck. Fix was swamped late after taking the lead at the 300m to the 100m and is always a force against her own sex. The fast leader Goldminer was swamped into sixth when still third at the 100m so her effort was not too bad at all. Of the rest you can forgive Kisses as wide throughout while Rolloput The Carpet was working overtime deep not far from the pace so had to drop out last at the line. The top five in this are serious racemares and should in the G1 mile for their sex at Te Aroha in a few weeks all be major players.
