WARWICK FARM May 9

Inside Grass; Soft 5

12 Heats – 2 x 1200m (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 3 x 815m (2 Open 1 2YO); 4 x 811m (4 2YO); 3 x 808m (1 3YO; 2 Maiden)

Top notch filly FIREBURN had been freshened since her fourth in the ATC Oaks with this trial appearance obviously designed to hone her for a Brisbane campaign.

Her class came to the fore in her 1200m heat as she sat three deep three lengths off the pace set by CREAM RISES before working home nicely to take the upper hand in the last 50m. It was solid work but the time was pedestrian (74.35; 34.91).

I've always had time for CREAM RISES, a lightly raced 5YO who was making his first trial appearance in 11 months. He led easily and was kept under a good hold by Nash Rawiller when challenged by FIREBURN. Expect he will take plenty of benefit from this workout.

NOVEMBER RHYTHM (Matt Smith): Dream Ahead 4YO has been placed in four of his six starts and looks ready for a maiden win after a strong win in his 811m heat. He led with ease and travelled well within himself to post the fastest time of the 10 short course heats (48.00; 33.74). Won by a comfortable margin and the form in his heat has been substantiated as a subsequent Kembla Grange winner finished fourth.

HAWKESBURY May 8

Inside Grass; Soft 5

14 Heats – 2 x 1250m (2 Open); 6 x 1000m (2 Open; 2 2YO; 2 Maiden); 6 x 800m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 2 Maiden)

DUAIS continued her trial prep for a first-up tilt at the Doomben Cup with a strong third in the fastest 1200m heat won by SIDEREAL.

She tracked into the trial from last and ran strongly through the line but her best work was past the post as she was allowed to run along for another 400m under a good hold from Sam Clipperton.

HAWAII FIVE OH (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): The Hawkesbury Guineas winner is primed for his next target. He was all class dominating his 1000m trial (59.18; 33.26) from the front, being kept under a big hold by Tim Clark for a soft win over the late closing FIELD WIRI.

KIBOU (Gai Waterhouse; Adrian Bott): Classy 3YO has had a good break since he missed the spring after his win in the G2 Up And Coming Stakes in August. Could not have made a better return winning the fastest 800m heat (46.33; 32.67), trailing his stablemate HI DUBAI and picking him up with strong work over the last 100m with Regan Bayliss swinging to him. Should be a reliable form reference with a strong trial behind him from BLACK IRIS.
