More Recognition For Fastnet Rock

Fastnet Rock's global recognition continues to grow with Magnificent Style, the dam of 2011 King George winner Nathaniel, among the mares he will cover during his northern hemisphere season in Ireland this year.

The 19-year-old Magificent Style (Silver Hawk) boasts a glittering stud record, being the dam of seven black-type winners – Changing Skies, Echoes In Eternity, Percussionist, Petara Bay, Playful Act, Stylelistick and Nathaniel.

She was purchased privately from the Sangster family by Nathaniel's owner-breeder Lady Rothschild.

Lady Rothschild's racing manager James Wigan told the Racing Post: "I like what Fastnet Rock has done in Australia and he'll suit her physically.

"He's a fine, big, strong horse and we thought it would be an interesting mating for her."

Last season's Irish 1000 Guineas winner Misty For Me is also booked to Fastnet Rock this year.

Fastnet Rock, who shuttles between Coolmore's Australian and Irish studs, has sired nine G1 winners in the southern hemisphere.

He enjoyed another successful weekend in Australasia with classy winners at Canterbury in Sydney and Ellerslie in New Zealand.

At Canterbury his promising filly Jade Marauder, an unlucky third in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes at her debut in the spring, confirmed that potential when she stormed home for trainer Chris Waller.

“She'll press forward now to the main two year old lead up races for the Golden Slipper,” said Waller.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Ingham Racing from the Yarraman Park draft, Jade Marauder is the second winner for stakes-winner Jade Diva and is a three-quarter sister to top class filly Bliss Street, a dual G3 winner in Perth and Melbourne.

At Ellerslie the million dollar colt Rock 'n' Pop continued to stake his claim as the country's leading three-year-old with a determined victory in the Karaka 3YO Mile at Ellerslie.

Trained by Jason Bridgman, Rock 'n' Pop (Fastnet Rock x Popsy) won the G1 NZealand 2000 Guineas two starts back and is one of the leading chances heading into the G1 NZealand Derby on 3 March.

Raced by the Te Akau Rock 'n' Pop Syndicate, the colt was purchased from Tom & Shelley Murtagh's Esker Lodge by Jayven See at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2010 Karaka Premier Sale for $1 million.

Rock 'n' Pop was bred by Barnaby & Co Ltd and is a three-quarter-brother to the stakes winning mare Lilakyn (Danehill) who was second in the G2 Brisbane Cup.

His dam, the NZ Derby winning mare Popsy (Sir Tristram), has been a leading mare in the Karaka sales ring with nine yearlings sold for an average price of over $500,000.

Her Redoute's Choice colt, later named Maciano, was the top priced yearling in 2008 when knocked down to trainer John Sargent for $1,450,000.
