Holler In Command At Moonee Valley

Godolphin three-year-old Holler held off a field of experienced older horses to win the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday, becoming the first of his age group to win the G2 sprint since Black Caviar in 2010.

The Australia Stakes had been the target for the Commands colt since he won the G3 Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley in October.

Holler (Commands x Shouts by Strategic) has won three times with four placings in eight starts.

He is a half-brother to two winners from the unplaced mare Shouts, a half-sister to the champion sprinter Yell (Anabaa).

They are out of the Bluebiurd mare Vocalist, whose dam Loyal Lyric (Sovereign Red) also produced dual G1 winner Anthems (Palace Music).

• THE influence of the late Commands extended to Hobart on Sunday when his G1 winning sire son Skilled recorded his first winner from just his second first crop starter when his two-year-old daughter Little Elsa made an impressive debut at Elwick.

A striking black filly like his sire, she kicked clear turning for home and was never seriously challenged, going on to record a comfortable two-length victory.

Little Elsa is the fourth foal and fourth winner out of the winning Cape Cross mare Walvis Bay.

Skilled won the G1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick as a juvenile

• CONSISTENT Zizou gelding Zin Zan Eddie posted his first black type win and fifth for his sire in the Listed Carrington Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

The Matthew Smith-trained Zin Zan Eddie (Zizou x Exclusive Bid by Snippets) took his earnings to more than $420,000 with his determined win the heavy going.

Zin Zan Eddie was bred by Stuart Ramsey’s Turangga Farm where Zizou, a son of Fusaichi Pegasus, first stood. He was sold to the Philippines last year.

Zin Zan Eddie was purchased as a yearling for only $65,000 and has now won five of his 24 starts and been placed ten times for earnings totalling $424,245.

He is one of three winners and the only stakes winner out of the two-time winner Exclusive Bid who is a half-sister to eight winners.

Zin Zan Eddie’s third dam Binibini (Solitary Hall) produced five winners including the stakes winners Clonmel (Thunder Gulch) and Saranggani (Dazzling Account).

Turannga Farm will offer a yearling sister to Zin Zan Eddie for sale next month.

JET Spur (Flying Spur) sired his seventh stakes winner when Tina Melina won the Listed Nudgee Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

Her win was among a trio of impressive winners at Doomben on Saturday for Jet Spur, Queensland’s reigning champion sire.

Kicking off was the Kelly Schweida trained 2YO filly Bagus, who took her record to two wins from two starts collecting a $78,000 first prizemoney cheque courtesy of the QTIS Fillies Bonus.

Jet Spur’s second winner came in the 3YO QTIS race when the talented Quick Ketch resumed from a spell with an eye-catching win.

It was the gelding’s third win from his only four starts.

Tina Melina has now won six of her 15 starts and has banked prizemoney of almost $350,000 as her sire’s seventh individual stakes winner.
