Irish Oaks

The Irish Oaks is a Group 1 race run under Set Weight conditions for three years old fillies at the Curragh conducted by the Curragh Racecourse for Horse Racing Ireland. The Irish Oaks is run over a mile and a half. It was first run in 1895 .

The Irish Oaks is a Group 1 race run under Set Weight conditions for three year old fillies at the Curragh conducted by the Curragh Racecourse for Horse Racing Ireland.

The Irish Oaks is run over a mile and a half. It was first run in 1895 and was won by Sapling.

The fillies often run in both the Epsom Oaks and Irish version at the Curragh but they are six weeks apart.

Early versions of the Irish Oaks were over the mile but it was lengthened to the traditional trip in 1915.

The first to do the English Oaks/Irish Oaks double was Masaka in 1948. Enable did it again in 2017 as did Snowfall by 16L and then 8.5L.

Several grand open class gallopers did win the Oaks including Ouija Board, Snow Fairy and Enable who ended her 3yo year winning the Arc. Sea Of Class went mighty close to doing that double in 2018.

The most Irish Oaks winners have been ridden by Johnny Murtagh with six with Aidan O'Brien now training most winners with seven.

After winning the 2019 Ribblesdale, Star Catcher won this Irish Oaks then the Prix Vermeille and also the British Champions Fillies and Mares for good measure.

Magical Lagoon would race on in Australia with Chris Waller the year after her Oaks win.

The Irish Oaks was run for prizemoney of £500,000 in 2023.

The 2023 Irish Oaks was won by Savethelastdance from Bluestocking and Library.
