Mackenna Announces Herself In Easter Egg Heat Demolition

Saturday night at Wentworth Park was a sight to behold when Victorian chaser Mackenna now being trained by Michelle Sultana gave punters and race goers alike a galloping exhibition that will probably leave the daughter of Whiskey Riot as the favorite for The Golden Easter Egg.

The explosive 29.20 second run for the 520 metres at Wentworth Park was the best of the night and was done so after drawing the car park in box 8 and coming off a let up from injury. Even at the peak of her powers Mackenna was never expected to run such a time so early into the three week series of The Golden Easter Egg.

Michelle Sultana is overseeing the preparation of the talented chaser having previously been trained by Victorian trainer Michelle Carruthers. Mackenna first announced herself when winning a maiden heat at her first start and demolishing her opposition by over 17 lengths. From the time of break in she always showed an abundant amount of speed.

Mackenna announced herself at the top level when wininng a heat and the final of The Million Dollar Chase series at Temora in September last year. In that series she beat the likes of seasoned campaigners Baby Jaycee,Royal Nangar and Nangar Larry. Her run in the final at Temora of 25.41 had to be seen to be believed and was comapred to the heriocs that She's A Paerl had set at the same track.

Mackenna had not done much since October last year after pulling up injured. She had just the one appearance at Shepparton in the heats of the Sportsbet Matchmakers as a $1.20 favorite winning convincingly only to be scratched for the final with new trainer Paul Abela. She was given a number of weeks off to be right for a tilt at The Easter Egg series and her win Saturday proves she has lost none of her ability and may have picked up a few lengths of maturity having spent a little time away from the track.

Her career record so far stands at 15 starts for 10 wins and 23 minor placings. At 28 months of age she is entering into a period when she should be producing her best ability. Only time will tell but we can be assured that her price to win the Group One Golden Easter Egg will be slashed.

In other heats of The Golden Easter Egg we seen good performances from the Chris O'Brien trained Quantifiable and the Steve Fitch trained August Bob who is still eligible for fifth grade races at Wentworth Park. Tim Zoo the recent Australian Cup winner left his rivals for dead in what was probably the weakest of the heats stopping the clock in a respectable 29.59.

Box draws for the Semi - Finals should be completed by Tuesday afternoon and will hold much importance for many of the runners engaged.
