Another classy trotter in the Hall stable

Gary Hall Snr is confident Marengo Bay is as good as any other trotter in WA currently, and Mondays win was a solid performance in the Renaissance Man Double Westbred MS Trot over the 2185m trip.

Driven by Hall Jnr, the $1.18 favourite made his debut to Western Australia with a consistent Victorian form line behind him giving punters confidence in the five-year-old.

After beginning well from barrier three on Monday, Marengo Bay was able to settle behind the other debutante on the day, Scootin Around, with a tussle to the line resulting in Marengo Bay coming out on top by just a neck in the margin in 2:01:6.

"The guy with Princess Mila sent him over because of the job I did with her,

"His form was quite good, he wasn't winning that often but the company over there is a hell of a lot better over there, he was running thirds and fourths, but David Jack wanted to go on holidays, so he sent him over to me." Hall Snr said

Hall will aim the gelding towards the GR2 $50,000 Trotters Cup on February 2nd, 2024.

Marengo Bay was sent to the west after 20 starts for 5 wins and 6 placings, having his last start in Melton in March before making the trip over to Halls stable, with Hall making mention that he is probably the best of his three at the moment, partly due to his easier mark.

"He's got a few little irks at times, so he's one of those heart in mouth horses like all trotters I think, but he's pretty smart, I think he's got a fair amount of ability."

With Hall Snr confessing that he's not a huge fan of the trotters, he currently has Bromwich and Tricky Ric in his team, with Tricky Ric set to make his return in three weeks time.

"Although he's on a hard mark, he will find it hard, but we will try and get him into the random barrier drawers."

Tricky Ric won 11 races from just 15 starts in WA, heading to the paddock after his last start back in February this year where he finished in 6th placing.

Bromwich who has been stood down for 13 days and 2 trials has enjoyed an "easy time" at the property and will head to trials on Sunday at Byford.
