The Narrogin review for Friday September 15

Aiden De Campo may have been experiencing the ultimate dream result up at Gloucester Park on Friday night, but he continued to experience the winning feeling throughout the night with Devilish Grin breaking through for his maiden win at Narrogin.

Driven by Emily Johnson, its was start 11 that proved fruitful for the westbred son of Grinfromeartoear USA when he came out on top in the messy race which saw Whoz This (Kaden Elliott) and The Thirsty Vet (Joseph Suvaljko) lock wheels soon after the start, ultimately resulting in Joseph Suvaljko being tipped out of the cart.

With all drivers walking away relatively unscathed, The Thirsty Vet was retired from the event, but further complications in the race when Midwife Calling broke down the back straight saw further runners inconvenienced and Whoz This running on to claim third prize in the last event.

Corey Peterson walked away with driving honours on the night when he took out four of the seven races on the card.

Kicking off in the first, he piloted the $1.90 favourite in Flyin Disco to victory, with the three-year-old working his way to the front from barrier four and taking out the opener with a 2.6m margin on the line in 2:03:4 over the 2242m trip for trainer Sarah Wall.

Peterson made it a race-to-race double when he led from start to finish on the Hayden Reeves trained Alexandra Thegreat over the 2242m journey, kicking away from the field to win by 9.6m in 2:01:1. The win gave the three-year-old daughter of Allwood Stud Farm stallion Follow The Stars her third career victory in 29 starts.

Race three went the way of the $1.90 favourite Rellim, who was able to go one better this week for trainer/driver Dean Miller. After settling at the rear of the field, Miller found himself five wide on the home bend, sailing home to win by a comfortable margin over the 1823m sprint trip at Narrogin in 1:59:4.

Gordon appreciates leading and he took full advantage in race four when he led all the way for trainer Will Vlemmix. Driven by Corey Peterson, the win brought up his third for the night. The win gave Gordon his ninth career win from a whopping 154 starts, with the eight-year-old holding off the well performed Tux And Tails by 1.5m on the line in 2:00:8 over the 2242m trip.

Billie Joe Star has had a fair while between wins, with her last win in December 2021 as a two-year-old at Wagin, but now back in the care of Peter Anderson, she has won first up for the stable. Taking out the fifth on the card for driver Cody Wallrodt, the pair led all the way over the 2242m, to space the field by 12.7m at the finish, in 2:03:6. Anderson took the quinella in the race, with stablemate First Airborne finishing in second placing.

It was a race-to-race training double for Peter Anderson, with Worlds Above claiming the penultimate event, this time with Corey Peterson in the cart. Rounding out a fantastic night in the sulky for the 22-year-old, he has experienced this momentous achievement just once prior at Bunbury a few years back.
