Leap To Fame Form Lines Create Intriguing Tamworth City Cup

The coming together of varied form lines from Brisbane, Sydney and country New South Wales has set up an intriguing clash in Friday night’s Garrards Horse And Hound Tamworth City Cup, one of two big events on Tamworth’s Australia Day harness racing meeting.

The $60,000 Tamworth City Cup forms part of the NSW Carnival of Cups bonus series and is supported by a highly competitive running of the $50,000 Multiquip Golden Guitar Final.

The form of Missed The Truth is hard to knock coming into the Tamworth City Cup having put together a string of wins and placings at Menangle since joining the Jarrod Alchin yard.

He was very brave in scoring two back after drawing deepest and racing wide before chasing well to finish second in the Christmas Gift Final when last seen.

He has been freshened since but races well that way and has been kept up to the mark with two trials, winning the latest.

One of the most interesting runners in the Tamworth City Cup is one that has the name of superstar pacer Leap To Fame popping up several times in his form page.

He is Send It from the Shane Graham yard and he heads south after tackling the very best in recent starts in Brisbane, clocking in fifth to Leap To Fame at Albion Park last week.

He also tackled the Inter Dominion series last year and while not up to that class he was also far from disgraced, twice finishing fifth in the heats behind Leap To Fame.

Send It may need some luck gaining gaps from the inside of the second row but the distance will hold no fears and he'll relish a class drop.

Hy Voltage is another coming down from Brisbane and he is in form at the right time, returning to the winners' list at Albion Park last week.

He has won at Tamworth before, claiming last year's Gold Nugget before a fourth in the cup.

Defending champ Master Catch may not bring the same form he did before last year's Tamworth Cup win but he does have a particular liking for the distance with two wins and a placing from three attempts.

He has been going around against decent opposition including a Menangle placing three back and has won a trial since the last outing.

Port Au Prince is another that has been tackling strong opponents in Sydney and while his recent form doesn't leap off the page his best would measure right up.

Trainer/driver Shane Graham looks a chance to land the feature double with the in-form Mossdale Terry a big player in the Golden Guitar Final.

Mossdale Terry made it back-to-back wins when successful in his first visit to this circuit in last Sunday's heats, racing three wide without cover but toughing it out by 1.3m.

He draws the same barrier again but is racing well enough to overcome it.

Sir Richard Lee recorded two nice efforts at Menangle before pushing forward from a similar barrier and racing parked to win his heat, getting home by 1.6 metres. He should make an impact again.

Ultimate Bird was runner up in his heat and the prior form was strong, winning four of his other five starts this campaign so should be competitive.

I Break The Line beat Ultimate Bird in winning his heat. He races well when third up so could go on with it.

Kickatinalongpony led and kept going for a resuming win in his heats. He gets the ace draw again and is unbeaten at this distance.

Race-by-race preview of the remainder of the Tamworth card

Race 1: MULTIQUIP GOLDEN GUITAR CONSOLATION (1980m)

HANDS ON (10) has the form on the board with a string of wins and placings to his name. Raced wide in the early stages when third in his heat and before that won both a heat and the final of the Inter City Pace at Maitland, both times when coming from this same barrier. He looks well placed. FAST TRACKER (11) will be fitter for his resuming fourth in the heats when off this same draw to be beaten 3.5 metres. Proven second up so can progress. JUSTA DRAGON (7) is a consistent gelding who looks close to a win after placing in his last three outings. Must respect. HAY THERE JOE (9) owns good records at both the circuit and the distance. Player.

Race 2: BELL PARTNERS TAMWORTH SPRINT (1230m)

BETTOR TO BE TRICKY (7) was disappointing as a beaten favourite in his Golden Guitar heat but did have to work. He had been racing well before that, recording a string of top-four finishes since a Maitland victory last month. This suits so is worth another chance. JAYJAYBENNY (6) wasn't disgraced when he was midfield in his Golden Guitar heat after he was held up. Scored a win at Dubbo three starts back and can measure up to these. NOR WESTA (8) resumes after four months. Produced some decent form last time in including a win at Newcastle two back. Readied with a trial so can go well. ZOEMAGIC (1) is worth some thought off a last-start win from this same draw at this circuit.

Race 3: RON WHITTON MEMORIAL (1609m)

MY ULTIMATE BUDDHA (10) continues to race well having yet to miss the top-three in his nine starts. He was runner-up two back in the NSW Breeders Challenge Eastern Region 2CG Final at Menangle then headed north for a-last start win at Redcliffe. Freshened since but was kept up to the mark with a trial. He is good enough to overcome the back row draw. MAJOR MONDO (9) gave his opponents no chance last start when he cruised to an 11 metre victory at this circuit and distance. Draws on the second line but placed two back at Albion Park from this barrier. Contender. SAINT KARAMARA (4) is close to a win after a string of placings at this circuit, last time missing by just a nose. TABRA (7) scored by a nose here two back and didn't miss by much last start. Respect.

Race 4: TAB CARNIVAL OF CUPS PACE (1980m)

MISTER QUIRK (11) found a Golden Guitar heat too tough here last time but is much better served dropping in grade. Good effort two back when he sat parked but scored a 1.3m win at Redcliffe. If things go his way from the second line he can measure up. SHADY JESS (3) is racing well having recorded back-to-back placings before landing a deserved win here last time out. Draws well enough to find a prominent spot again. Big chance to go back to back. TULHURST CUDDLES (6) wasn't disgraced when midfield after racing parked last time and missed by a neck when runner up here two back. She is on the radar. MEGA STAR (7) is working up to a win having placed in his last two outings at Newcastle.

Race 5: HAZELLS TAMWORTH LOCAL FINAL (1980m)

DOLLARSIGN (8) is racing well having yet to miss a place this time in. Scored a win at this circuit two starts before a second from this barrier last time, beaten 1.1 metres. Reaching peak fitness and has winning claims. BOLDINO (9) missed the placings as favourite last start but had recorded back-to-back wins at this venue before that. He is going well enough to feature in the finish. SPORTSCAM (11) scored his second win from his last four outings at this circuit when scoring by 2.5m last time. Building an impressive strike rate here. Big chance. BETTOR KEEP ROCKING (4) showed pleasing improvement to place last time out and is drawn to play a role again.

Race 7: NSWSOA MARES - MEMBERS BONUS PACE (1609m)

MYSTIFY ME (9) worked hard when racing three wide without cover in a Golden Guitar heat last start but was going well before that, missing by a nose after sitting parked two back to follow a string of wins. Owns impressive strike rates both here and at the distance and is suited against her own sex. DIDSHEDOIT (8) is another better placed having tackled a Golden Guitar heat last start and she too put together a series of wins earlier in her campaign. Major player. Hard to knock the consistency of HAVEYOUMETDAISY (6) who must be considered after recording a fifth successive placing when third here last time. CORLETTE (4) draws well and will be race fit after three starts back from a spell, the latest effort a third at Newcastle.
