Lyon Parilly hosted a competitive Class Two conditions race on Monday 8 November with multiple runners boasting Black Type experience. The short-priced favourite Martial Eagle put in an impressive performance to score by three lengths and looks a horse to follow next season.

The three-year-old had been given a quiet campaign by trainer Francis-Henri Graffard, winning a Saint-Cloud maiden in eye-catching style on his third career start. He was stepped up in class significantly when placing third in the G2 Prix Greffulhe (2000m) in May. Despite facing easier rivals in two subsequent conditions runs, Martial Eagle had been denied a win finishing runner-up on each occasion. However, the victory at Lyon Parilly seemed to mark a turning point in the colt's career. He used the benefit of his race experience to jump sharply from the stalls and comfortably breezed past rivals in the closing stages to win by three lengths.

Connections have indicated that Martial Eagle will be targeted for Group company in 2022, focusing on races over 2000m. He comes from a Black Type family – the third winner out of the unraced Montezuma. Full brother Moonshiner won the G3 Prix de Lutece and half-brother Monreal was placed in the same contest.
