Trainer Yannick Fouin had three runners in the Cagnes-sur-Mer opener on Monday and all three finished top four. The winner Maspeed looked a class act drawing away in easy fashion to record a winning debut and appeared to be one worth noting for the future.  

Pace appeared to be strong. Don't Cry Baby went clear as the flag went down and was lit up skipping along the fair side to stretch the field out by twenty lengths from first to last. The winner raced a little keenly in fourth position early and jumped in a slightly careful manner during the first circuit.  

This daughter of Montmartre gradually improved on hurdling technique and by the closing stages was making headway down the back straight for the second time, constantly creeping closer to the leader who was still Don't Cry Baby.  

With three left to negotiate, the winner continued to travel strongly and kept progressing until challenging for the lead turning for home. A gap appeared and the winning jockey, Tanguy Andrieux, quickly used the inside passage to draw along terms. With a couple of pushes, the filly responded travelling beautifully approaching the final obstacle. The best leap was saved to last.  

She accelerated towards the finish in eye-catching style looking a promising performer open to progress. It will be interesting to see where Yannick Fouin takes her next as the trainer is coming into form, now operating at a 16% winning strike rate the last 50 runners, an increase of 4% in the past week.  

The Haras du Hoguenet based sire, Montmartre was a top-class performer over 2000m/2400m including success in the 2008 G1 Grand Prix de Paris (2400m) and now continues to be one of the notable jumping stallions.
