There was a thrilling finish to the season's feature race at Caen as J'Aime Le Foot and Joyner Sport pulled well clear from the rest of the field in the home straight. The former managed to find extra approaching the finish to narrowly win the G1 Saint-Léger des Trotteurs (2450m).

Sixteen runners went at a decent pace in the early stages of the contest and with a circuit to go, the former G1 mounted winner, Jelyson (Finished fourth) moved to the front adopting pacesetting duties. Eventual winner, J'Aime le Foot was close to the speed racing in fourth place but two off the inside pegs so was in a good position which would allow David Thomain to challenge whenever he wanted.

Around fifteen lengths covered first to last as the field headed to the back straight. The Philippe Allaire trained three-year-old was creeping closer and took second place at halfway travelling strongly only a half-length behind the leader. This continued as they began the final right-handed turn with the son of Boccador de Simm taking up the running. Turning into the home straight, J'Aime le Foot was travelling powerfully and looked the one to beat. Joyner Sport was quickly following a similar path to the new leader in second on the outside with 500m to go.

J'Aime le Foot and Joyner Sport both quickly pulled clear from the rest of the pack in the final 400m with Jessy de Banville and Jack Barrow looking limited racing behind and one paced. However up front, the leading duo continued to go head-to-head, and neither was giving way which produced a thrilling finish for the large Caen crowd. With 100m to go, David Thomain found a little extra onboard J'Aime le Foot who went one length clear and secured victory to win the 2022 mounted G1 Saint-Léger des Trotteurs (2450m)Joyner Sport was very unlucky as he broke stride in the final two strides and was DQ. This left Jessy de Banville and Jack Barrow to fill the placings.

The question is now whether J'Aime le Foot will be able to maintain his high-quality mounted form during the Vincennes Winter Meeting and prove a future star of the discipline. Time will tell.
