Seven-year-old mare, Born To Be A Queen maintained an excellent consistent career profile when recording her eighth Cross-Country success in easy fashion at Fontainebleau on Tuesday.

Ten runners had to negotiate eighteen obstacles over 4600m where the strongly supported favourite, Born To Be A Queen was settled in third place, four lengths off the leading nine-year-old pair, Djazzman and Daffodil Rose. Ten lengths covered the group early and the field were jumping well.

A sensible leisurely pace remained as the field jumped varying fences, hedges and banks in the centre of the racetrack. As they approached halfway, Kilian Dubourg pushed forward the winning mare to share the lead with runners negotiating the bank before joining the main course proper where the daughter of Walk In The Park was taken back into second position. Gradually the field spread out increasingly.

Born To Be A Queen was making a first visit to Fontainebleau and on a couple of occasions this did show with her struggling slightly tackling the extreme sharp bends of which this track challenges its competitors. The mare returned to the lead and increased the pace and she continued to jump with enthusiasm.

Inside the final 1000m, the Lageneste & Macaire trained seven-year-old had to be niggled along in places but continued in close attendance to the leader. Born To Be A Queen suddenly went to the front before the final turn, and showing good acceleration, jumped the double barrier very well going a couple of lengths clear. In the home straight, the mare was going best and enjoying the race as she kicked away again after the last hurdle, producing an impressive and easy triumph.

Born To Be A Queen has been in great form the past twelve months which started with a visit to Pardubice (Czech Republic) this time last year to tackle the famous fences. She fell and then rested however, on return she has won both outings this summer at Pompadour showing a love for Cross-Country racing and is now eight wins and four placings from seventeen attempts in the discipline. With the Pau Winter Festival due to commence in two months there might be opportunities for her to continue her impressive cross-country career.
