Despite being slowly away from the stalls, Heartache Tonight recovered quickly and made all. This newcomer for UK based trainer, David Menuisier showed plenty of promise on the soft ground and looks a name for the notebook.

A field of eleven runners contested this two-year-old maiden with minimal form coming into the event. Only one competitor had filled a placing prior with that being the second favourite, Indian Gold. At the start a few of the runners were slow and awkwardly away including the favourite, Heartache Tonight who was last after 100m. However, Cristian Demuro stayed calm and allowed the debutant to relax and settle. The filly then made headway, quickly racing solo on the inside. As the tempo was slow the UK filly hit the front and adopted pace setting duties after 400m.

Exiting the back straight, there was an increase in speed with Heartache Tonight showing a professional attitude making a first racecourse appearance and remained close to the rail as they joined the false straight. The field now stretched out to fifteen lengths between first and last.

Once on the false straight, the daughter of Recorder was angled to the centre of the track trying to find better ground. The filly continued to travel well, and she was the last horse to come off the bridle. Cristian Demuro only pushed out to give her time to react to any potential dangers, however the filly found more on the underfoot conditions and kept her rivals at bay, kicking on with 200m left to run. There was no stopping at the winning line and she posted a comfortable two and a half-length debut success, never in any danger.

Indian Gold finished second again, with some fair and promising efforts by the third, fourth and fifth respectively in RosirCoria and Paray, though none were a match for the winner.

Heartache Tonight is a half-sister to the yard's dual Group One winning mare Wonderful Tonight, winner of the Longchamp G1 Prix de Royallieu (2800m) and the G1 British Champions Fillies & Mares (2400m) at Ascot (UK) in 2020. Menuisier thinks plenty of the filly where the Classics next Spring are likely targets especially the G1 Prix de Diane (2100m)Heartache Tonight is an exciting prospect.
