Race 1

#1 DARCI JOY appears very well placed in the opening event and a terrific chance of bringing up a second win for the season. He rarely runs a bad race and although well exposed after winning three races last season there's plenty still in his favour. He can race handy or potentially lead, in an event that lacks speed, plus the race dangers have drawn wide or get back. The cheery on the cream pie is the booking of 10lb claiming apprentice Ellis Wong, who's now settled in and ready to fire.
#2 HAPPY DAY has only just found his way back into class 4 and is guaranteed to secure the economical run. After winning a 1400m race early on last season he's struggled with the higher grade. As a noted back marker he often finds bother at a critical time, which interrupts his momentum. With Purton to ride from a nice low draw I'd be expecting a far more aggressive approach.
#7 BROTHER PEARL has made significant improvement his past couple and it won't be a surprise to see that continue. With in form jockey Mathew Chadwick to ride, from barrier one, he's a very interesting runner from the Dennis Yip yard. He was under a strong hold at the trials back in April and continues moving well during his morning work.
#4 NORTHERN BEAST ran we'll over the 1400m recently and gives every indication he wants more ground. The 3yo son of MAURICE only trialled up fairly leading in to his career debut and is going to take time to mature. With a wide draw to deal with its likely Bowman eases through the initial stages, before working into the race the second half.
#6 GO GO SIXTEEN has been around the mark all season in these types of events and a dangerous runner to overlook. He's still yet to win in class 4 company but has gone close and the drop back in trip can suit. New Australian jockey Brenton Avdulla is yet to post a win so expect a good ride.

Race 3

Lion Rock Trophy
(Gp3- 1600m - Hcp)

#3 BEAUTY ETERNAL is on the verge of breaking into the big boys club and today receives the opportunity to stand up. The son of STARSPANGLEDBANNER has all the necessary attributes to reach the highest level with the December Internationals a long distance goal. With a good draw and comfortable weight of 122lb a first Gp3 victory is on the cards.
#1 BEAUTY JOY was in the same position as BEAUTY ETERNAL this time last year and despite remaining winless this season, measures up as the one to beat. We all know weight stops trains and that's the biggest deterrent when considering his prospects, but he's got form around the best horses in town. He'll likely settle behind the leader absorbing a trail but when push comes to shove, he'll be up for the fight.
#4 CIRCUIT STELLAR has the profile to lead this small field and there's knot many better out in front than Mathew Chadwick. He'll most likely be vulnerable to a superior turn of foot but traffic congestion wont be problem.
#5 BELUGA defeated BEAUTY JOY in a class 1 back in February and a performance of that nature gives him a chance. He's a far better race horse when positioned on speed and that'll be the option today after to wide gates recently. He's another runner contesting a group race for the first time and I have no doubt he'll run well, but more than likely in defeat.
#2 TOURBILLON DIAMOND drops back to a mile following an ordinary performance in the Gp3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup. He's a quality animal on his day and the booking of a fresh face and inform rider in Michael Dee should be acknowledged. With blinkers back on and a formidable record at Gp3 level he can bounce back.

Race 7

Sha Tin Vase
( Gp3 - 1200m - Hcp)

#1 LUCKY SWEYNESSE is right in contention for Hong Kong Horse Of The Year following his third Gp1 victory in the Chairman's Sprint Prize. No doubt GOLDEN SIXTY'S long standing reign, and three Gp1 wins, make him the obvious pick but a win today for LUCKY SWEYNESSE gives him hope. Only the great BEAUTY GENERATION has won a record eight wins in a season and that is also on the line. The handicap conditions are certainly against Hong Kong's new sprinting champion, but all being equal it won't matter.
#7 VICTOR THE WINNER is the new kid on the block and a big chance of taking it up to the already established. With fantastic gate speed, quality mid race power and a high class kick to boot, he's going to be accountable. He's weighted accordingly and drawn a barrier to test any opponent here, and his personal previous times confirm it.
#3 COURIER WONDER ran a cracker and almost career best performance behind LUCKY SWEYNESSE last start, as was predicted. The weights and measures turnaround are massively in his favour this afternoon and he should reduce the margin on LUCKY SWEYNESSE. Is it enough to turn the result around, only time tells, but the price differential between the two shall be off the charts.
#2 SIGHT SUCCESS has endured a successful, but at the same time, long arduous season. His trip to Dubai in March was a success after finishing a gallant fourth in the Gp1 Alquoz Sprint. However, he raced flat upon return in the Gp1 Chairman's Sprint Prize and finish further back than expected. He'll be up on speed keeping those around him honest but he's entitled to a spell.
#4 CORDYCEPS SIX was stretched out to the longer trips mid season in an attempt to get to the Hong Kong Derby. He's a terrific sprinter who's nicely placed back at 1200m and possesses X-Factor qualities on the clock. He hasn't won a race all season, which is the biggest concern, but he has won at this level and trip, this very race last year.
