Japan Racing Preview – 12th December 2022

Three meetings on the Japanese NAR circuit for punters to sink their teeth into on Monday – Kawasaki, Kanazawa and Mizusawa.

Kawasaki Racecourse.
Kawasaki Racecourse.

Kawasaki is the highlight card and that is where we are looking for three of our best bets.

Kawasaki – Race 6 #3 Sun Eau Claire

Sun Eau Claire is lining up for the first time for trainer Yuya Yamazaki and finds a nice race to kick off in. She hasn't raced since a third at Mombetsu back in September and she had won four of her previous five going into that so the form reads well. Won her only attempt at this distance and should get the favours from barrier three. Her ratings from last preparation stack up strongly in this line-up so she looks well placed to return a winner. Marino Venus got off the mark with a win last start so comes into this in the right form. Led throughout there so can take advantage of the inside stall. Gilt Letters looks close to breaking through after a 2L second last time out.

Kawasaki - Race 8 #8 Kikuno Zephyr

There is a sense of timing about Kikuno Zephyr today. He was a big improver second run back from a break when he kept chasing for a 1L second at this course and distance and owns solid records at both. Usually races well third up so looks set to peak and win in a highly suitable assignment. Treasure Barows looks close to success having finished runner up in both runs since a spell. Won his only third-up attempt so will be at his peak now. Karula Factor was a shade disappointing when in the market and unplaced last time but won two of his previous three at this course so is worth another chance.

Kawasaki – Race 10 #7 Cosmo Sterling

Cosmo Sterling might have missed a place at Urawa last start but there was still plenty to like about the performance when a 2L fourth. He will relish the return to Kawasaki where he has won four of his six attempts and his previous form was sound, following a resuming win with a second from a wide draw. He is at peak fitness and looks well placed. Grosser Bar was a big improver at odds last time, closing well to beat Cosmo Sterling home. His record here isn't nearly as strong as his rival's but if he was to perform to the same level as last start he is a definite player. Yamanin Luciole drew wide in her resuming fifth. Fitter and gets the inside stall so can improve.

Kanazawa – Race 1 #1 Queen Of Cheko

Speedy filly Queen Of Cheko looks nicely placed. She has looked good in her last two outings at this course and distance, leading and digging deep to score two back then again showing the way before sticking on for fourth last start. That looks strong form for this and she has the gate speed to take full advantage of the inside stall. That should see her hard to catch. Mana Liona is still a maiden after eight appearances but a win looks imminent after a good showing at the track and trip last time when she chased well for second. That was her second placing from her last three runs and she shapes as a danger.
