A narrowly beaten second in the 1000 Guineas on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket, the Dermot Weld-trained filly Tahiyra will next race in the Irish equivalent on Sunday week. A Group 1 winner in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at two, she returned to the track in the English Classic when going down by half a length to the Godolphin-owned Mawj following a titanic tussle between the two fillies over the final furlong. They were seven-and-a-half lengths clear of the third, Matilda Picott.

At Leopardstown on Friday evening Tahiyra's trainer Dermot Weld reviewed the performance:

"She ran a super race, they are two very good fillies who drew seven and a half lengths clear of the rest.

"She was carried a little bit across the track as well but full marks to the winner, she's a very good filly. On the day she had the fitness and on the day she was slightly the better of the two fillies."

Weld explained Aga Khan Stables has two runners engaged in Sunday week's Classic – Tahiyra and recent Group Three placed Tarawa – with a current preference for Tahiyra to go for the Guineas:

"We'll make a decision next week, the same with Tarawa as well. It's more likely than not, at this stage, that Tahiyra will run in the Irish 1,000 Guineas," said the Rosewell House handler.

"The final decision will be made the middle of next week."
