Group 1 Irish Derby winner Westover will head to the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes or the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud dependant on fitness.

The Classic winning son Frankel commenced his four-year-old campaign with a good second behind Equinox in the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan and started favourite for the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs. He took a keen hold during the race and fell victim to Emily Upjohn's devastating turn of foot in the closing stages but stayed on well to finish one-and-a-quarter lengths in second behind the filly.

Although Westover has produced two good efforts at Epsom Downs, it hasn't been the luckiest of locations for the Ralph-Beckett trained horse. He was hampered repeatedly in the closing stages of the 2022 Epsom Derby and ran well to finish third behind Desert Crown.

He will remain over twelve furlongs for his next two potential targets – the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes or the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud – and holds an entry in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe later in the season.

Racing manager for Juddmonte, Barry Mahon said: "We were absolutely delighted. He was second to an exceptionally good filly, the time of the race was very strong – three seconds quicker than the Oaks I believe – and he has run a great race.

"The slow early fractions probably didn't suit us 100 per cent, but we have no complaints. Frankie [Dettori] went past us at the three-pole and it was hard to get him back, but we were getting there at the line.

"He's a high-class horse and apart from in the King George last year, he's never run a bad race. The Hardwicke is a possibility. It's probably coming too soon, but it's a possibility. It's a toss-up between that and the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, he'll run in one or the other of those hopefully."
