Since 2019, Charlie Appleby has been making successful raids on open German Group 1 races and Nations Pride's victory marked a sixth for the trainer. He previously won the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis – Bayerisches Zuchtrennen  and Groisser Preis von Baden with Barney Roy in 2020 and campaigned Rebel's Romance to pick up the Preis von Europa and Grosser Preis von Berlin in 2022.

Nations Pride has been an international flagbearer for the Appleby team, winning the Grade 1 Saratoga Derby and the Grade 3 Jockey Club Derby at Aqueduct as a three-year-old. He returned with a Group 3 victory in the Dubai Millenium Stakes at Meydan on seasonal reappearance before finishing a close second in the Group 1 Dubai Turf behind Lord North. The son of Teofilo has not been seen in the UK since his eighth in the 2022 Epsom Derby.

"I'm delighted he's been able to get a Group One win to go alongside his Grade One win from Saratoga," said Appleby.

"He's a very solid mile and a quarter horse and William gave him a great ride.

"We were confident going into the race although we were having to concede a lot of weight to the German Derby winner [Fantastic Moon, second], but he's done it well.

"Going forward he's going to be a horse that we'll campaign internationally as he's got the experience of doing so. There's no immediate targets but he'll have an autumn campaign, internationally.

"I'm delighted for the team he's put another Group One on the board."
