Record 180 trainers registered for 2024 Racing League

Racing League has received a significant boost in support for 2024, with reigning champion Flat trainers John & Thady Gosden among a record 180 stables registered for this year’s competition, an increase of 34 per cent compared to 2023.

The powerful outfits of Charlie Johnston and Archie Watson are among 45 trainers new to Racing League and add much-needed firepower to team Scotland.

Ireland overhauled Wales & The West to claim the spoils in a memorable finale at Southwell last year and the defending champions have the largest group of trainers to call on, with Johnny Murtagh a notable addition.

Wales & The West has added five new trainers to its ranks, while Andrew Balding and Roger Teal have both switched allegiance to London & The South.

Richard Fahey sent out the most runners during Racing League 2023 and once again represents The North, while John & Sean Quinn are the flagship signing for Yorkshire.

Over 120 jockeys have signed up for Racing League, another record, with the outcome of the draft due to be announced this Saturday, March 23.

Six of the seven team managers return for 2024, with leading TV presenter Chris Hughes taking over from Frankie Dettori as manager of The East.

Hughes said: "I'm really looking forward to being part of Racing League this year, it's going to be fun! Having seen who's on my team I have to fancy our chances of winning."

The winning team will receive a bonus of £50,000, with a £35,000 bonus pot for the winning team jockeys, and £20,000 to the jockey that scores the most individual points over the competition.

Jeremy Wray, CEO of Racing League, said: "I am delighted again with the support from the trainers across the UK and Ireland, and the new entrants will add significant strength to all the teams – it should be even more competitive than last year, and having Chris Hughes on board will no doubt add to the manager rivalry."

The first fixture will take place at Yarmouth on July 25th.
