Deepone will be targeted at the Irish Guineas, after a disappointing run in the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes over ten furlongs.

The Paddy Twomey trained colt enjoyed a successful juvenile season, recording two wins at Leopardstown and Killarney before stepping up in class. Despite suffering a defeat at the hands of Diego Velazquez on his first try at a mile, the Study Of Man colt returned to winning ways in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes to round off his two-year-old campaign.

Deepone made his seasonal reappearance in the Ballysax Stakes and always raced keenly, hitting the front with five furlongs to run before fading back into fourth – eleven lengths behind the winner Dallas Star.

"I think Deepone will go back to a mile and have a go at the Irish 2,000 Guineas," said Twomey.

"The last day there in Leopardstown he just raced too freely, the penalty and the ground started to take it's toll up the straight.

"I think he's a strong traveller and dropping back in trip should suit him, that should point us in the right direction for the rest of the season.

"I think he's pretty versatile, I don't think he wants it as heavy as the other day but I don't think he's ground dependent."
