Injured Toast Of New York Misses World Cup

Leading Dubai World Cup contender Toast Of New York has suffered an injury and won’t race again until later this year.

Trainer Jamie Osborne reported that Toast Of New York had suffered a soft tissue injury.

He was strongly favoured for the World Cup on March 28 on the strength of his nose second to Bayern in the 2014 GI Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita.

“He's had a setback and, sadly, he's going to miss the World Cup," said Osborne.

"I'm sure we'll be formulating another plan. He'll be back."

Toast Of New York went to Dubai as a 3-year-old where he won the G2 UAE Derby and has subsequently campaigned exclusively in America where his other efforts include a second to Shared Belief in the GI Pacific Classic.

Earlier this year he was purchased by Sheikh Joaan Al Thani’s Al Shaqab Racing from owner Michael Buckley.

His injury comes after the Al Shaqab Racing-owned and Todd Pletcher-trained unbeaten colt Khozan was ruled out of a Kentucky Derby campaign due to an issue with his right hind leg.

The colt is unbeaten in two starts including a 12.75 lengths victory over a mile last month.

Al Shaqab Racing’s GI Gulfstream Park Turf winner Mshawish, trained by Todd Pletcher, is set for either the G2 Godolphin Mile or the G1 Dubai Turf (formerly the G1 Dubai Duty Free) on March 28.
