2016 Belmont Stakes - Easy First Work For Exaggerator

Preakness Stakes winner Exaggerator got his first feel of the Belmont Park surface on Monday when he worked a lap of the big oval in rainy conditions.

Exaggerator, trained by Keith Desormeaux, galloped a lap around the 1 1/2-mile Belmont track under exercise rider Peedy Landr as he prepares for the final leg of the US Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes on June 11.

"He was really good," assistant trainer Julie Clark said of the Curlin colt, who won the Santa Anita Derby and was second in the Kentucky Derby before taking out the Preakness at Pimlico on May 21.

"The track is so big, it kind of looks like they're going slower than they are but he went a nice good pace. Not fast, not slow, just right in the middle.

"He seemed to handle it well. He came back barely blowing.”

Clark said Exaggerator may have his final breeze for the Belmont on June 4 or June 7.

Probable rivals for the third leg of the Triple Crown are Brody's Cause, Cherry Wine, Creator, Destin, Governor Malibu, Lani, and Suddenbreakingnews.
